    We had a day long tour today with Mezure the driver, Ûmit our guide and Barbara and Denis. We started with 'Fairy Chimneys' which are naturally formed though you would think someone balanced the rock on top of the fluted rock formation. We were able to walk down and I tried to help Caleb scale one of them so he could peek in the hole. We then went crouched and crawled through some five levels of an ancient underground city.     ... in this region was forced flee to the caves to escape Roman persecution that reached its apex under the Emperor Septimius Severus (145-211 BCE; Emperor - 193-211 BCE) in the second century BCE. The Caves, near Cappadocia which unlike today, were almost impossible to see, were covered with volcanic sand and therefore hidden from view. Many of the chambers were covered with magnificent frescoes that have survived, in some instances, nearly intact.

    ... the region of Cappadocia…..Cappadocia where we stayed two days and where I had so much fun hiking some of its volcanic fairy-chimneys rocks and cliffs.

    A place I’ll never forget…...a place definitely “to see it to believe it” but it was now time to turn the page over……and continue on with my journey across Turkey!
