Today I got up with the plan of simply taking a quick trip across to Giau Pass and then returning to the hotel to take a walk over to the Dolomites right over the road from the hotel.
However, things did not work out that way and while riding the passes I realized the time was going faster than it should have been and so knew I had no chance of getting back early enough for a walk around ...

These cableways consist of a heavy duty hanging cable and a pulling cable and the car is simply a large wooden box. I'm not sure they would be used for passenger carrying as they have no windows in them but in winter snow I just cannot see any other way of getting down to these houses below.
