Well, Bolazano is a bilingual city, both German and Italian speaking, but a lot of English too. After a 5 instead of 3 hour train journey we arrived in a very sunny, muggy but windy environment. The only thing to do was to to sit in Walther Piazza, people watch and eat and drink as we hadn't in many hours. ... up and relaxed a bit before grabbing the free Sunday aperitif in the lounge (Spumontee) while the kids journaled and wrote postcards. Note from Val: Today we took a guided tour into the mountains east of the town of Obergurgl (up the Gaisbergferner glacier valley) to search for garnets. We were well equipped for the task, with our hammer and chisel borrowed from our hotel. Our guide, Monika, was very knowledgeable about the area, and once she showed us what to look for we were able to spot and collect quite a few nice garnet samples. For ...
