... a gradient of 25%. Both these hills were very narrow with just enough room for two cars. We continued on and eventually found our hotel, after wending our way round Ilfracombe. The hotel is pretty cheerless but only for two nights. We walked down into town to find a meal, the weather is pretty miserable but we have been so lucky so far and tomorrow promises to be ...

    Cornwall in the Mist

Today we decided to head to the north coast and do Tintagel Castle and Port Isaac. We were hopeful that the early morning drizzle would clear, so we set out after a lovely breakfast and headed north to the seaside town of Bude. The closer we got to Bude the worse the weather got. ... and would have gone on if Robin had his way. I suggested that we take a, slightly more sheltered route although not so picturesque way, along the road. I was so glad to have my Arab scarf which I wrapped round my head. The wind was blowing in one ear and almost out the other ! We reached the car after a long tramp uphill on the road, glad to get out of the wind. Our cup of tea that Sue had waiting was never more welcome ...

... I had veg option. The dessert was three little different tasters- one a lemon syllabus , one tiny fruit pav and a custard tart. Afterwards was cake and champagne and coffee. Fortunately the weather was good with sun all day. We left in the minibus at 5 and were back in London by 6.30 We were invited back to Tessa and Ian's for more food and a drink. I lasted out until 9 but had to retreat back to the hotel to crash, as I had been awake since 3.30am ! The next day I had ...
