... new and different. Australia and NZ are easy places to get around. They speak the same language and they drive on the same side of the road and most people have a similar attitude to the English making it feel distinctly less foreign. Fiji and all of the countries we visited in Asia are different and that is where the true excitement for me comes from and I guess that is what travelling is about and boy am I going to miss it. We arrive in Fiji, in Nadi airport which reminds me of ...
Nadi, Viti Levu, Fiji adam_and_kim... a canadian guy from t.o busted out some bob marley and we made friends the canuck way. that really set things off for me, and we spent the next while knocking cocounuts of out trees with a giant piece of bamboo and smashing them open with rocks just like tom hanks. it was so much fun. after i was full of cocounut milk, and went snorkeling and checked out all the flouescent fish until it was time to head back. we re-boarded to a truly ...
Mamanuca Islands, Fiji tsquared... Any sudden moves at that time could have been dangerous. The atmosphere was electric, the staff nowhere to be seen by then. The man kept moving up to look at the bag before turning to step away. He came back to menace us again and again and it was while he was moving away on one occasion that I reacted. Signaling to Lynda, I had her pass her handbag over to me and stuffed it into my backpack before the man could notice. We stood up then and moved ...
Nadi, Viti Levu, Fiji laurieslife... plane I was hit by the hot humid air of the tropics once again after 3 months away in the temperate climates of Oz and New Zealand. Jumped into a cab to my accommodation at the Bluewater lodge in Newtown, Nadi. A British guy and his Fijian wife own the hostel and are extremely helpful and nice, made me feel very welcome. It's obviously been raining real hard today in Nadi, the ...
Nadi, Viti Levu, Fiji christosp... that will make the same trip as me. The next day my new freinds an be went to the marina to start one of my best experiences so far.
We got on the Yasawa Flyer. A big yelllow catamarang boat. It took us to the end of the Yasawa isalands to a resort called Coral View. There we were warmly welocmed by the whole staff. They were singing ...
... was some Wolf Vodka that goes for $15 US but they were auctioning it off for $60 Fijian, what a rip off. As a thanks to our Peace Corp friends we treated them to pizza and a fun match of UNO. Lautoka was fun but it is time to head back to Musket and get out of Fiji. We have one day to get out or we are illegal.
Lautoka, Viti Levu, Fiji abeiner11... his foot down to make sure we got there on time. This was of course pointless, because the boat didn't actually leave until 09:30! On the way, we got views of Fijian countryside, small houses and many lorries carrying sugar cane to the factory at the port. In places, there was enough cane crushed on the road that the whole area smelled syrupy. The boat took Gordon and me, two New Zealanders and about eight workers out to Beachcomber Island. You may guess that it's a ...
Lautoka, Viti Levu, Fiji pete-rAfter a 32 hour I finally arrived in Fiji!!! The humidity really hits you as you get off the plane! Rich, one of the crew members came to collect me with one of the guys - Jonnie, but he was there for his mate, who he was going to go island hopping with. We made it back to the house by around 7, and i was left sitting by myself in the 'sitting room'. In drips and drabs I met all the other venturers....all are really nice! There were 5 other girls when I first ...
Lautoka, Fiji idrummond... we were happy to have a quiet day mooching round the resort cooling off in the pool and generally relaxing. March is meant to be the worst month to visit Fiji because it is the wet season but it is still hot and you just get the occasional shower. It was fine when we arrived though there was a thunder storm at night. One day by the pool was enough though and the following day we booked a taxi to visit the local town of Lautoka. Lautoka is not a tourist town and ...
Lautoka, Fiji robandemma... can't wait to sink there teeth into a nice juicy chunk o'Peter gushing in sweet Adrenaline sauce). I have seen the whole ordeal as a test of nerves and a psychological challenge for my phobias and have to say therapy was successful! I've been happily snorkeling and diving along the incredible reefs watching swarms of colourful tropical fish and rays swimming along the banks of hundreds of different types of corals, anemones, crayfish, sea slugs ...
