... It was pretty good but the thing that we like most was the display of cigarette butts that the sculptor had found in the sand while he was working. We thought it was a powerful statement and congratulated the guy heartily. He was very pleased, so I guess we were the first people to have noticed. (Hopefully not). Then onto the restaurant for lunch. Yes, we ordered the couscous and seafood, while B and F got stuck into some calamari. All very tasty and without the ...

... Of course Stew bought too much wine. We had our first couple days of windy, stormy weather making the beaches unusable and the kids and I entertained ourselves with some 'borrowed kid cars' left by the side of the road. We're still not sure whether we borrowed or stole them from the response of the owner when we returned them. They kids rode them down our steep drive, but needed help getting them back up the hill. ... on top of the hill was very refreshing.

Checked in at San Francesco Monastery. Medieval but with modern amenities. My window looks out to a courtyard, I feel transported to the 11th century. Explored the scientific center. Didn't realise Richard Feynmann, my physics idol, used to lecture here. Dinner at S. Rococco cafe, two courses with a surprise desert. With neuroscientists from Cambridge. One of them's presenting ...

Segesta and Selinunte - Ancient Greek Temples

Sicily never fails to amaze with its ancient monuments. Segesta and Selinunte were a fascinating day trip. Both were built around 400 centuries BC, the earliest and most important Greek colonies in Sicily.

First stop was Selinunte. The Doric temple and the Acropolis were highlights of this most important ancient Greek colony in Sicily. We had to pay 6 Euros entrance. The bus had to pick us up from ...
