Historical Traveler Reviews Tanjung Rhu Resort Langkawi
Got married here, it was totally magical.
Stayed at Tanjung Rhu in Feb 2005. We choose this hotel to have our wedding at and as you can imagine it took lots of time and effort to find exactly what we wanted for our special day. We had very high expectations about this hotel as we had read good reviews on it and had researched for weeks over the internet. Well, it was everything we expected and much much more. There was a party of 10 of us who went for the wedding and all of us thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay. The wedding was out of this world. The hotel did their upmost best to keep me informed via email about the arrangements. We had our own wedding co-ordinator who was brilliant. It was very private too and not like I imagine it to be in the Carribean, with every Tom Dick and Harry watching YOUR special day.
The rest of the holiday was really nice too, the beach is so clean and beautiful. You do not get pestered at all. The waiters are there all the time ready to provide you with anything you need, including cold towels to cool yourself down and fresh fruit.
We took the semi all inclusive option during our stay. This meant everything was included except alcoholic drinks. It would have been better to include this but still the options were vast and the food was unreal. Go to the Rhu for fine dining, this was brilliant. There is also the Saffron and the Sands restaurant, which were both very good too.
We opted for the basic room, which was better than anything we have ever stayed in and we have travelled the world. There are dark wooden floors and the bed was that big you could roll over twice and still not be next to each other.
The staff cant do enough for you and are very friendly. They even went to the trouble of getting some much needed medication for my Dad who has breathing difficulties, because he had run out of them.
There is an excellent spa on site and a very good beauty salon, both of which I treated myself to for my wedding day.
Theres not much evening entertainment. There is a beach bar open till about 2 am but that is it really so it is more of a relaxing holiday or just get drunk and stumble back to your room.
During the day there are plenty of things to do and trips to go on. The main town is nt that far and is great for shopping for bargains.
I really cant emphasis enough how wonderful this hotel is. We are definately going to go back for our anniversary.
Best Hotel Ever!!!
We stayed 9 nights in the Tanjung Rhu-Hotel and it was really the best Hotel we've ever stayed in. And we always travel minimum 4, better 5 star-Hotels all over the world. If you'd like to see picutures: ----
Every Picture on the hotelclub make's me feel homesick to that hotel. I'd like to stay there again sometimes. But it's 13 hrs. flight away. But every picture on hotelclub is the real reality!!
We stayed here with our 11 month old daughter for four nights and had a fabulous time. Very difficult to fault anything as the service, food, location and facilities were first class. We loved it and cant wait to go back!
My husband and I have just returned from 7 nights at Tanjung Rhu and it is the best beach hotel we have ever stayed in. We had high expectations after reading the other reviews on this site, but we weren't at all disappointed. The rooms and lovely, the staff very attentive, the food is fantastic and the the view from the beach is gorgeous. We also recommend taking the all inclusive option.
We combined our stay with the Madarin Oriental in KL, which was also fantastic. All in all a great holiday!
Each time we go on holiday we like to visit somewhere new, but I can't imagine not going back to Tanjung Rhu!!
First class in every way, stunning location - wonderful!
We stayed only 4 nights at the tanjung rhu and have been keen to return ever since - we loved it. Location - fantastic, beautiful deserted beach, wonderful views. The pool is right next to the beach and you can be at the pool and beach at the same time! Stunning pool and another pool with sand bottom. Hotel is beautifully furnished, rooms were fantastic, fresh fruit every day, lots of lovely 'extras' and attention to detail, hotel has library, can borrow books, dvds etc, service excellent, food was very good and the breakfast buffet one of the best we've had. they light fires on the beach at night, and you cano rder a private bbq cooked on the beach, you can have dinner on the beach - very romantic. Could not fault the tanjung rhu at all - 100% recommended you will have a blissful, luxurious, fantastic time. (Not for those seeking nightlife).Look forward to returning one day - for a longer stay.
One of the nicest and friendliest resorts on langkawi
my husband and i stayed at tanjung for a week in february 25-4march 2005 on honeymoon and had the most wonderful, stunning time there. the hotel is wonderful, staff are friendly and the resturants are very good. the pool area is beautiful and you can relaz there the entire day with waiters walking around with complimentary fruit skewers. overall the resort is absolutely wonderful we could not have asked for more or had a nicer time. the resort also has lots to do and can arrange activities everyday if you want.
Loved it, can't wait to go back!
My partner and I spent 5 nights here in January 05 and absolutely loved every minute - fantastic room, great food, excellent service. We took the all-inclusive package and highly recommend it - plenty of great eating in all restarants (make sure you book 'The Rhu' as soon as you arrive - at least for a couple of nights). Would also recommend the BBQ on the beach - again, make sure you book early. The location (away from other resorts or towns) and size (relatively small) was what we loved the most - very easy to relax and enjoy the great weather and atmosphere.
Very unknown !!! A Hideaway !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a really Great Hotel !!! We were there in Nov 2002 and it was a good choice !! In this day it was the probally best Hotel on Langkawi !!! The Datai is a nice hotel but the beach can not compare with the Tanjung Rhu ! it is very pricy and stiff !!!! The Tanjung Rhu offers the total relaxing programm !! We will return for sure !!!!!!
Excellent spot to relax and unwind
Stayed at the Tanjung Rhu in Jan 2003 for 5 nights. Excellent location for relaxing and beautiful beach was almost deserted apart from about 4 or 5 local fishermen and women - and this was the height of the season.
The views across the beach out to the islands and across to the mainland of Thailand in the far distance are stunning.
Our room had views of both the sea and the gardens and was very spacious indeed - as well as well equipped.
Service at the resort, whilst not always super efficient was excellent and always very cheery - the staff really do seem to enjoy working here. The food was also excellent and the variety afforded by the 3 main restaurants also good.
Would we return - certainly. Would we recommend - if you're looking to chill out - definitely.
Sheer bliss ......
My wife and I stayed here in February '04 and it was an absolute delight. I am not the easiest person in the world to please, but have to admit to ten days with very little to ruffle my feathers - certainly a PB for me! Service levels are very high, the staff friendly and efficient and the food is good and varied. Our room was very large with all the a refinement you would expect for a 5* spa. The pool is also wonderful, but the main feature is the view: a wonderful long sandy beach overlooking 3 small islands that you can wander across to when the tide is out. If there is a downside it is that the location is a bit isolated and away from the busier parts of the island, but if you want to relax in I can't recommend it highly enough.

... where she looks after 8 children. Her toothless smile made up for the grumpy Malaysians we've encountered many times on this trip. When we told Helen that we were taking the boat to the island of Langkawi she looked at us nostalgically. "I've been there," she said. "It's better than here, and the food is better," she said, gesturing to the food stalls surrounding us. "Shhh, don't tell them!" she added. So we left to Langkawi, where Martijn promised the holiday will begin. I'm ...

We were going to try the famous sunset beach but if was a 30 minute drive away and the weather above was getting a bit cloudy. Instead we headed to Cengang beach where there were beach front bars and people renting out sun loungers. ...
It was the easiest border crossing we have experienced yet. Just under a two hour boat trip from Ko Lipe over to Langkawi, in Malaysia. Chris and I disembarked at a ferry port, our names were called for us to step forward to collect our passports to be stamped, and that was it, we were in! We got talking to a Swedish couple at the ATM who were headed the same way as us - to the main beach area, Cenang. We shared a taxi, with us jumping out at the cheap backpacker end of the beach, and ...
... is a very challenging way to sail because you have to be constantly aware of the possibility of an unanticipated gybe (whereby the main sail changes sides unexpectedly with tremendous force!). We put a preventer on the main and used the port sheet to keep the headsail full to maximize the wind effect and made a steady 7.5 knots across the strait to our destination. As we approached Ko Lipe, our intended anchorage, Ginette took the helm in preparation to come up to a port tack while ...
Our journey to Langkawi was to be the start of a few weeks of tropical island hopping, as we made our way from northern Malaysia into southern Thailand - home to famous getaways such as Phuket, Phi Phi island, and Koh Samui - en route to Bangkok. Our approach to Langkawi via sea provided breathtaking views of Langkawi's surrounding islands. In fact, Langkawi is actually an archipelago of 99 islands, set off the northwest coast of Malaysia, just south of the ...
