... foot. We got settled in to a beauty of a room again then relaxed a bit before heading out for something to eat. When we finished dinner we thought we'd better head back to our suit as it was getting dark and we were a bit lost our bearings. We started off in what we thought was the right direction and then...the lights shut off at once leaving the road ahead in darkness. PANIC...The kids looked to their trusty parents for reasurance but we ...

Hanging in Haco

... others, though I am told it was not my fault? I started to catch a big one, and as soon as I was in full paddle and about to stand, I saw some guy like 3 yards from me, not a safe distance from me, so I jumped off the board, which went straight up in the air, came down on his board, and he got hit by some other guy who bailed as well...other than that, I didn´t miss a single ride, and ...

Can't never could, and won't never will...

... is like being the rock inside of a rock tumbler (but we still came out shiny and smooth!). The hills the bus maneuvered would have put any four wheeler back home to shame. The truck we saw flipped onto its side was the definition of foreshadowing. For the next three hours we were at the mercy of our driver. The drop offs on the sides of the roads were so steep, you'd swear the bus would flip just by glancing in their direction ...

The Rough Road to Monteverde

... of the time which makes for a ¨Monteverde¨which translates as ¨Green Mountain.¨ I am surrounded by greenery and spectacular scenery (hey, I´m a poet and don´t even know it.) The view from my apartment window is breathtaking. I´ll brag about that later. Monteverde was originally settled by Costan Rican farmers, but is now home to a small group of North American Quakers. These people left the US ...

Arenal/Monteverde

... these poor creatures were fit for was a gentle stroll and it got a little frustrating. Note to self: next time check whether the horses can move a little faster. We agreed to go on the canopy tour tour with the guy who ran our accommodation. That went well so we agreed to go on the expedition to Arenal with him too rather than check with other operators. Our mistake...it was the trip to see the volcano which is supposed to be fairly spectacaular. We weren't ...

Westsyyyyyyde

and here is Jaco on the westcoast... met a great friend - Bonette - who showed us around the mountains via hiking and 7 hours of horseback riding - ouch! Also watched a tortuguero give birth, went to a bull fight (where the ambulance was pulling out as we pulled in!), and went to a waterfall... pretty boring stuff! ha!

... closer to it, but then changed his mind. Anyway he says, less odor. One of the most unbelievable things I have learned is that only 7 years ago, the entire pueblo was leveled by hurricane Mitch. Only 2 houses made it; one being his dads. Every tree was knocked down and the river behind his house actually had its drainage moved, by about 50 meters, closer to his (new) house. He told me the river used to be lined with 100 plus year old trees and every one of ...
