Visit very modern museum of the Long March. It is the 70th anniversary, and the march went through this town.
Arrange with Kevin Skalsky, owner of Turtle Mountain Gear and Outfitters in Old town to go with him tomorow to visit a small village where he is building a lodge - the first in the village.

Today would have to be one of the incredible journeys I have ever made. The scenery as we started to climb the mountains out of Lijiang was amazing . and just when we thought it could not get better we came to the first bend of the Yantze. Even though we could not see the river flowing south just the river heading north ...

Our second day in Shangri-La, we took the local bus toward the largest monastery in Southern China. Halfway there, the police stopped the bus and indicated we had to get off. It turns out that tourists now need to pay an exorbitant Y85 (formerly Y20) to reach the temple. The ride is aboard a large tourist bus with a Chinese guide.
On the approach to the temple—over a hill a few ...
... has made anything less than ten feel like someone is cutting my skin with a dull knife. After a short detour (aka... getting lost) through the old town of Lijiang, we arrived at Mama's Guesthouse. The walk through the old town reminded me of the images I had of China before I ever visited. The architecture is very rustic, with brick and mortar buildings capped with curved points jagging out into the streets. The people walking by were dressed ...
Shangri-La, Yunnan, China matpatterson99... gets really excited and stands up. The girls all move in pack and race till the very last second. Very competitive and quite spectacular. I feel like I've gotten more than my money worth for coming to Shangri-la. Who cares if it's not THAT Shangri-la. *** WORLD CHANGE STARTS WITH EDUCATED CHILDREN! Shangri-La, Yunnan, China orizarska... t our original plan but in Shangri-la no one was willing to sell us bus tickets north to Litang because it was suddenly closed to forigners due to a group of French people causing trouble a few weeks ago in regards to the Tibet political issue. Thanks guys. Unfortunately the guy sitting next to me on the bus back was fat and smelly but luck was shining down on me, when half way through the journey he got off, meaning we had more space and odour free!
Shangri-La, Yunnan, China jon-daniellaWe flew from Lhasa to Shangri-La. The Lhasa airport is hilarious. Security is a bit questionable and certainly a lot easier than our friend Heathrow airport. Shangri-la is nestled between some immense snow cover peaks, and if time was on our side we could have done some amazing hikes. Shangri-la unfortunately is still at a high altitude and therefore still freezing. All we had was the address of our hostel, but as hard as we searched we could not ...

Yunnan, China wijleweg... to the malaria pill but it subsided by the time we arrived. The flight to Zhongdian was awful. I hate the small planes as you feel every bump. Coming into land was a nightmare! There are mountains all around so the turning circles were incredibly tight and constantly up and down. It's the closest I have ever come to being sick on a flight. Dave wasn't so lucky and managed to be sick on the ...
