We got very little sleep on the bus so were relieved when we could check straight into our room at Arch Palace hotel. It was a great little hotel in the centre of Goreme, and whilst not a cave hotel (many of the hotels are actually built into the caves), it was a nice stone building with a fabulous rooftop with amazing views across the town, with fairy chimneys and cave houses all around us. ... the sand stone of the area. Some of the churches still bear the plaster and artwork of the original inhabitants dating to about the 11th century.

A couple of hours walking the museum in the hot sun and we felt our lack of sleep catching up on us. Not wanting to spoil our sunset ride we headed back to our cool cave to relax and recharge for a couple of hours.

Nearby the House of the Virgin Mary was revealed in the visions of a German nun who gave detailed descriptions of its constructions near Ephesus. ... other caves and found it. The view from here was beautiful! Our room was a cave which naturally remained a perfect temperature even though it was all kinds of hot and cold outside.
