Last full day for the Amigos

... another section of 100k of mainly good roads to the town of Cuellar - identified by BE as being a potential lunch stop. On the way we slowed to go through a town with the first indication that all was not well being a bouncy castle blocking half the road. The second indication was another bouncy castle completely blocking the road! Diverted up a side road with no signs, the first couple of attempts resulted in U turns. Finally we met a young couple with a couple of small ...

Here it is said that Jane of Aza came to pray at the tomb of Santa Domingo de Silos. Her son, Dominic de Guzman is probably named after him. Lunch in ...

... including me, chose a lamb dish, since lamb is a speciality of this region. Beer, is becoming a regular accompaniment to lunch each day. So much for my rigorous weight reduction programme! Back to Caluerega after lunch for a short rest and then we are met by Dominican, Fr Jesus Martin, who is a wealth of knowledge about Dominic. We are shown the crypt, wine cellar, fortified tower and the 16th century ...

... loudly and non stop to each other whilst we conduct a short prayer service in the church. The view from the village out over the surrounding plains is expansive and quite stunning. In the late afternoon, we hop back on board the bus and head for the tiny village of Caluerega. Here we are staying in the Dominican convent. Dinner will be served at 9pm, so we have time for drinks at the local bar and a walk around the ...
