Last full day for the Amigos

... after having taken the statutory photos, had pointed out vaguely the way we needed to go. Eventually we found the way out and continued. As luck would have it, a turn into the town centre found us two kerbside parking spaces adjacent to a very good tapas bar where a good lunch for €17 including drinks was had at a pavement table. The next stint caused a satnav disagreement but not before we had been to the slowest petrol station with the longest refuelling stop ever. With ...

... and painkiller pills at Gatwick airport. Well, you know, I'd read the kids take pills in clubs in Ibiza so I was well stocked up - with paracetamol and Gaviscon! I was in for some night! At the conclusion of the liturgy, a shaft of sunlight breaks through a window and ...

I woke up just before dawn this morning and took a walk to the hill overlooking Caluerega. There is a large cross here (cross of St George) and the view takes in the monastery and the outer homes of the small village. Beyond that are green fields, some ploughed ready for grain crops and others with young grape vines. The wine industry is growing in this region of Spain. Breakfast is simple, bread rolls, fruit ...

To Caluerega, birthplace of Dominic de Guzman

This morning was spent exploring the beautiful city of Salamanca. We visited the two cathedrals, the Dominican monastery and the enclosed Dominican convent, established by wealthy widows in 15th century. Once again the weather is perfect, so walking the streets is a pleasure. Then a two hour bus ride to Aza (or Haza), during which we were shown the film, The Way, inspiring me once again to seriously start planning to ...
