... the equator and the origins of its discovery. There was a monument, planetarium, museums, shops and restaurants inside the plaza, each one based solely around the equator(randomly llamas were present on the plaza grounds too). When finding out we could ,quote-on-quote, visit the equator, a line was all we expected. We were impressed by the whole setup. Spending our time there was easy. ... cafe before reaching the bast of the final staircase which is a very narrow and steep winding staircase which opens up into the clock tower at the top of the cathedral. We are given a welcome present of the views over the city, snap a few pics and make our way back down. The outside of the cathedral doesn't have the usual gargoyle guards, but instead has local animals such as monkeys, Pumas and turtles guarding the cathedral. Was cool to see the local twist ...

... to wave down like a scene from the railway children? Frequent rays of hope were quickly shattered when approaching buses turned out to be trucks slowing to get a good look of the estranged travellers. The next 2 hours provided me with significant expertise in defining the differences in dimensions, headlight configuration and approach speeds between Ecuadorian trucks and buses.
