In spite of being allowed at sleep in until 7, we woke up at 6 due to the various calls from the jungle. We packed our bags, hopeful that no creepy crawly things are trying to stow away, and headed for breakfast in the lodge. It was a beautiful sunny day, already warm and requiring fans, perfect for creating those last minute impressions. On our canoe ride out we saw two river turtles and their babies sitting on a log, a large cocoy (a type of heron and Daniel's namesake), a blue ...

... t have much of an appetite. Around this time the feeling in my fingers started coming back and I started warming up. That night I took it pretty easy at the hostel and at some point I did get hungry and Mark and I went to this little brewery right across from our hostel for some food and drink although I couldn't really enjoy the beer because I was too scared to drink anything - you're not supposed to drink alcohol with altitude sickness. ... nice and new. The young owner Aaron is full of great information about the city and speaks excellent English which is helpful. After settling in we headed out to find the tour offices to look into amazon jungle tours and find something to eat. As the sun was setting we headed to itchimbia park which sits at the top of a lot of stairs, much to Lauren's displeasure as she is still getting over being sick. We walked around for a while until it started getting dark. ...

... his taxi. We got to one place who only had a room for $20 but they told us about a place over the road that should be cheaper. $7 a night, and it's one of the better hostels I've stayed in. The desk guy, I forget his name, (which is not nice as he obviously make a point to remember all his guests names) was really nice and has excellent English. Looking at his available rooms he asks "so do you like German girls or Swiss girls?" As the rooms he ...
