... lake edge where the salmon were spawning and the bears were eating. One of our fellow passengers, a senior citizen from Beijing said "OK we go now" in the middle of bear viewing. The guide said it is a "bear viewing" trip, so we promptly dropped him off at the lodge and carried on without him. In all fairness, he was jet lagged, and in need of a bathroom. After that ...

... looked great and it was a great place to pick up inexpensive souvenirs but otherwise I would probably skip the North Pole. The "town" of North Pole is actually south of Fairbanks and has candy cane striped street light poles.

... there. We lunched by the Salcha River, then stopped by the visitor center in North Pole with an elaborately detailed visit with center employee and then a tour of log cabins. ;) On to Fairbanks to the Morris Thompson visitor’s center, a very nice place with all sorts of information on everything Alaska. We tried to book an Artic circle tour by plane but could not wait until ...

Bad Santa

... to walk through all of the decorated trees with ornaments from China and Taiwan begging to be bought at ridiculous prices. There were a few locally made items but I was not going to pay $35 for a fragile glass ornament and try to transport it 7,000 miles without getting smashed. They were beautiful though. Buddy enjoyed the 'we make your fudge while you wait' counter and Santa's throne. The throne, which he sat in, eating fudge, drinking a coke, ...
