kuta

we spent our last few days in bali in kuta. if you stay away from the main tourist area, it's really not bad. and the beaches are surprisingly uncrowded and clean. a good place to learn to surf, if you're so inclined.

Bali

12th August 2008 We flew into Bali from Singapore and we only arrived at midnight which was a bit **** as we ended up going straight to our bungalows to sleep and didnt get to look around the place till the next day. We got a pick up from the airport from the place we were staying, Suji bungalows, which was grand as trying to get a taxi would have been a bit more hassle. We were staying in Kuta, the main resort. Suji bungalows looked nice but the one we were in was ****, the bathroom was in b...

... than any city I have been in Asia so far. It is quite a small area - comprised mostly of two main parallel streets, one lining the ocean and both intersected by two small streets named Poppies 1 and Poppies 2. Poppies 1 and 2 are lined with hotels, restaurants, tour shops, massage parlors, and an endless number open faced stores selling surf gear, dresses, sandals, and souvenirs. Poppies 1 and 2 are very narrow yet are jam packed with motorbikes and the occasional car or truck ...

Bali Bagus!

... we thought it would be worse then the zoos at home, but we had driven a fair way to get there so we figured we would go inside.

It was awesome. You got to hold one animal for free - John had his photo taken with a lion and I chose a baby orangotang - it was great! Just before Johns go with the lion, he got a bit upset and nipped the keeper - John was ******** himself when it was his turn - he was ready to run! We also got to check out a heap of other animals ...

Bye Bye Philippines, HEEELLLLLLO Indonesia!

... and the difficulty in doing ANYTHING there (because of strange bureaucracies) - are holding you back. To get to the countries "Next Boracay", one shouldn't have to spend 5.5 hours in the back of a packed retrofitted school bus full of dead roosters and homeless children. One shouldn't have to LITERALLY SWIM from the pump boat to get to shore whenever you get to an island, and one most certainly shouldn't have to spend 10 fu#@ing dollars on dinner... in ...

Kuta - 'Pull My Whistle B*tch!

... into the game and missed the first goal, which was scored in the first minute! It was a good game, and all four of us were supporting Everton (because who wants Chelski to win anything?!). For some reason, a large population of the bar was filled with Aussies, all of whom were supporting Chelsea! WHY?! A group of 2 aussies and a little Bali kid were sitting behind Tom and cheering. When Chelsea scored the kid jumped so high that he split a bit of his coke over Tom's lap, haha ...

... and grab a beer. Lisa bought a sarong (15,000 Rp with hard bargaining) and joined the procession inside the cemetery. The body was carried from the top of the tower, passed around the bull three times and then the top of the bull's body was split open and the body was placed inside of it. A picture of the woman was also taken from near the top of the tower and carried by some living relatives as they all placed offerings inside of the bull's body. Several types of ...

... each other trying to get out. But there is no way out. Children are freaking out and parents are trying to save them, cause if they get underfoot, they're done. I learn that I no longer have any control over my own being, I am simply carried right off my feet by the mob wherever it goes. It goes nowhere. I am tossed around like a beanbag. I tell myself "Tara, relax, this is what Rick always meant by mob mentality, keep a cool head ...

This isn't the last entry by the way so stay tuned, although it;s our last "new" destination there's another one, it's complicated, think of it as a secret track on a n album you have to listen to silence for 5 mins to get too. Only it's not ****. Waffle waffle waffle

Sunshine at Last!

The sun! The sun! Let the worship begin! We've been eyeing our lovely pool for 4 days now and finally we have a reason to use it. It's really hot when the sun comes out, so we're in it quite a bit. I have discovered that the best way to stay cool is to lie on ...
