For his birthday, Clancy received a new helmet, a custom printed shirt from the Spences, a balaclava (road tested in anger today), and a bottle of Wasabi beans. He had the entire breakfast room sing him happy birthday (much to his chagrin) this morning, half of it in Japanese.
Tomorrow we have a big day to get back to Nagano, then a series of trains to Hiroshima (~ 800km ...

I had a quite good Hamburger steak and the unlimited refreshment bar which fueled my final 20 km back into downtown Takasaki. After lunch, it felt like I had another gear and I hammered back to the hotel along a main road and kept up with the same bunch of cars as we hit various ...

Road Trip

... is so cool. I can see myself enjoying socializing with them. They shared plenty about their experiences, offered plenty help and support and extended a very friendly hand to all the new ALTs. A few of us (who were able to) stayed afterwards and had dinner together where we socialized a bit more. I know I will have some stories to tell by association with them. They will keep me active in this ...
