... the day running with Helen round to the main town on the island. It was somewhat difficult on some of the steep slopes, certainly the locals on mopeds thought we were nuts. ... sailing. With wave directions slightly side on to the boat crossing the spaces between the islands was rougher than a lot of the ocean crossing! But in the lea of the island it was smooth sailing to the anchorage. Arriving in the twilight hours we nosed into the anchorage as the night lights were turning on. Dusk treated us well as we dropped anchor with reasonably good visibility.

Daddy had read that the diving on les Saintes was some of the best in the world. He wasn’t disappointed. He said it was an interesting dive with a strong current requiring an immediate entry. Dad was proud that he managed to understand the French instructions when even some of the French didn’t! The highlight of the dive was at the end when a water bottle was passed around. ...
