real leather belt

... tangs attached to the base. The belt goes through the ring and is secured by tangs, which you push through one of the holes in the buckle along the belt. These are the most secure and are normally found in majority of leather belts.

Snap buckles - made up of two pieces, one with clasps with springs on both sides and the other hollow with sides open, snap buckles have each piece found on one of the belt ends. To fit into the buckle's hollow piece, the clasps are squeezed ...

Elise's IV scare and Hair washes

Well, I jinxed myself by saying that no one had been in the hospital yet, Elise had to go in to get fluids and antibiotics. We think she drank some water in her bath, because she threw up and had diarrhea all night. (Everyone else was fine and we had all eaten the same food.) She continued to throw up all day and the following night, so that 36 hours later, she needed some IV fluids and she was running a slight fever so the doctor ...

China's One Child Policy

... assume that I am from here, that I married a foreigner (since the kids are obviously not 100% Chinese), and that we had the kids overseas. They think we’re just back visiting family or that the kids are being brought up here, so that they speak Chinese and the local Qingtian dialect. It is actually quite refreshing to see all the babies and toddlers and families with more than one child.

Gravesite & Fireworks

... in the city. We actually used Roman candles, firecrackers, M-80s and some cones that made awesome spark displays. Roman candles shoot fireballs with a firecracker in the center that blew up after shot. The firecrackers we set off individually and sometimes we emptied out the gunpowder onto a rock and lit it for a big flare. M-80s are sticks of dynamite that could blow up a hand. Last of all, the cones shot green colored sparks.

My Great Grandfather's old house

... medicine doctor, so he was well respected and made more money than others in the town. You can still see the frame of the old house on each side. They rebuilt the middle (white) section and one of my mom’s cousins lives there now.

This is a picture of the back alleyway of the house. It used to be the main road when my mom was little. This ...

Train to Qingtian, Stone Carvings and Mt. Views

... 3). The whole country was off from Oct 1-8. We planned to stay in Qingtian until the holiday was over, to avoid all the crowds traveling at the same time. There was supposed to be 200 million people traveling over that week. We figured avoiding that would be a good idea!

My grandparents’ hometown, Qingtian, is known for being a mountainous area with carvable rock. Here’s an ...

“ñ\“ñ and Lin Hai

This weekend we took a trip to Lin Hai for a hometown visit. The family of a student that I have been working with invited our group to a visit of their hometown. We had a chance to visit the Great Wall of the South, an Old City and Guoqing Temple. Today was my 22nd ...

Our (luxury!) last stop in China...

... happily stay for a lot longer.

We went out for an early dinner after we checked-in and when we came back around an hour later, we had chocolate, a small toy and a pillow menu waiting on our bed. I didn't request a specialty pillow but my boss did and she said it worked a dream! (I think she got the anti-stress one) you can actually purchase the same pillows if you ask reception to take home ...

Shanghai to Yiwu

... not in English either! Was a massive case of trial and error (am not looking forward to the 'extras' bill at the end ...) So ... am off for my first day in the trade/wholesale markets in Yiwu tomorrow. I have five days of that before i head off to Jinan to spend some time with my dear friend Maree ... and then we're off to Beijing to do the 'touristy' things. Peace, love and ... soy beans ... (enough duty free cocktails for me i thinks ... hehehehe)
