The check-in counter attendant at Hong Kong airport asked the obvious: "Who not direct fly to Beijing?" The answer was a saving of R180 to connect via Ningbo, adding another 4 hours onto the trip via the George'esque Ningbo airport. ... few court yards are not very well presented and a lot of rubbish & building materials are led around. It's not a good first impression, Ian thought a better plasterer & painter was needed!! When you get through to the main courtyard and palace it is impressive with it's great stone carvings & stairs and ornate designs, you keep walking through doorway after doorway. ... in having Chinese families wanting our photos taken with them. The guide told us that because it was a holiday people from outside of the big cities were there. They do not have much contact with Westerners and wanted the photos. Felt strange at first, but since it happened again and again, we got to enjoy it.

Good location reasonably close to centre. Breakfast was very good- plenty of choices. Room spacious & well equipped but not that quite (even on 6th floor)
