... canal the longest man made canal in the world, (1900km), hand dug by millions of people through forced labour some 15 hundred years ago it stretches all the way to Beijing.

At the end of the boat trip we walked over one of the many narrow bridges and then a long walk through the congested vibrant market. Lots of fresh food, really fresh, still alive.

We had only 24 hours in Suzhou, the "Venice of the East". Mmmmmm although we haven't been to Venice we think it's a little prettier and cleaner then Suzhou! Anyway the city is based around a large canal network and we had a quick trip on a boat. Spotted lots of locals doing their laundry in the canal, it's a stark sign that the majority of the country is still living in poor conditions despite its super speedy development. Suzhou, the Venice of the East. I've never been to Venice so you can be the Amsterdam of the East to me. Perhaps Suzhou is just Suzhou and Amsterdam is the Suzhou of the West. Doesn't really matter I suppose but they're both full of canals.

Every person probably has their own way to travel. Some mark out all the points of interest they want to visit and have a precise schedule of how and when to get from one to the other. ...

... not as fancy as the one we had earlier today but it was still really good.

When we got back to the hostel, Katrin and I packed up our stuff so that we would be ready to leave in the morning, we were planning to leave at 5:30am sharp so we would have plenty of time to get to the train station to catch our 7am bullet train home. I had a really great time in Shanghai, it was a fantastic experience and the people I travelled with were so much fun! I would definitely do it all again. ...

Le jour de noël, je me suis baladée dans le village de Tongli. Il n'y avait pas beaucoup de touristes à mon plus grand plaisir. Je me suis régalée. Il faut payer pour rentrer dans le centre ville, c'est un peu cher (12€) mais ça vaut le coup. Parce qu'une fois que tu as paye l'entrée tu peux aller dans toute les maisons et les jardins. Je pense que du coup j'ai vu des trucs que je n'aurais pas vu si ...
