Similarly to naming Qingdao both the Switzerland and Riviera of China Suzhou is named the Venice of China. I think Suzhou deserves it's title a little more than Qingdao though. It's well pretty and has all sorts of fancy gardens you can visit, my favourite being 'The most Humble Administrator's Garden.' I took most of my photos in there. We awoke to a crisp morning inside our room. We learned from Andy that setting one produced the most heat not setting three which we had cranked the whole night...maybe we had the air conditioning on...it felt like it! Even the house showed the differences between where the men spent time (much more elaborate furniture, libraries and in the front of the house where there was more light) and where the women might knit or do handiwork (definitely no reading and in the interior where there was no natural light).
