The afternoon turned very misty, cold and rainy for our three hour drive to Hangzhou.
We went back to Casa Zoe's for breakfast after moving from the Kempinski Hotel back to the Gran Park Hotel for work tomorrow. We then went to visit the Nanshan Temple, and walked around a market area, a bit like Confucius Temple area in Nanjing with small shops and stalls.
We then took a lovely boat trip down the Grand Canal (which we have been on in Hangzhou also), stopping off at a hand-made brick museum. Another lovely day.
I traveled to Wuxi last Thursday to meet Will to go into Wuxi No 1 School to do lesson observations and professional development workshops on Differentiation and Homework, so we decided to stay over the weekend and celebrate my birthday early! We booked into the Kempinski Hotel.

... ever seen were the fishing cormorants. On a boat the size of our gondola, a man had about eight cormorants tethered to perches with a rope around one leg. He would whack them with an oar and they would dive in the canal and come up with a fish in their mouth/upper throat. Not a big deal except they had a string tied around their neck at mid-length, preventing the poor bird from swallowing the fish. The "fisherman" would then grab the bird and make it spit ...
