... songs in some dark, pagan language…<br> We also enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of Eric and his wife Caroline, along with their two daughters Coline and Lana. Eric and Caroline are friends of the Lunambule´s owner. They live on the beach near the Point of Venus, and they initiated me to the wonderful French way of eating, with luxurious meals on the weekends that lasted 3 hours and consisted of more courses than I could count. We ate so well a couple of times that we had ...
Tahiti, Society Islands, French Polynesia marmaladejennBack in tahiti. Julien had organised to take me to Morea or go around Tahiti. We woke up later than planned - around 9am and then took nearly an hour to decide where we wanted to go. Finally we decided to go around Tahiti. Took the car and left off with Herve and Julien. Went around and arrived in the near island in the south and called a friend of Julien a guy he had a made a road for, [Julien is a project manager in road building here], to try and see if ...
Tahiti, Society Islands, French Polynesia sebou... under a bridge. Tried to hitchhike as many cars passed but im not sure if it was because I was soaking wet or just because I was not a local but I didnt not get a ride and was only saved when a bus picked me up. The rest of the day was quite and I just went about finishing my book, resting, swimming in the pool and getting eaten alive by mosquitoes (mosquitoes are having breakfeast right now as im writing this entry). The evening we went into town as some animation was organised in ...
Papeete, Society Islands, French Polynesia patoysandrix... benches to speak of, just hard metal seats, a long shelf thing which was a bit too narrow, we realised after a short experiment, to sleep on, and a big expanse of floor. Tiled floor. Well lit, tiled floor. Wrapped around our bags, accompanied by the DVT sock wearing couple from Easter Island who had been quite vehement about going off to find a hotel regardless of the expense, we slept on the floor. Actually, Jacob slept on the ...
Papeete, French Polynesia jacobandkirsty... up to 1 metre in length. We carried on up the valley passing large number of waterfalls in to the main crater. They get up to 9metres of rain (200 rain days) so it was very green. We had lunch at a hotel at the top. It started raining really heavily and our guide wasn´t sure that we would make it back down. The track got really rough on the way down and ...
Tahiti, French Polynesia paul_lucy... Paul had a Mai Tai. We went to get dinner provisions from the Carrefour (supermarket) but it closed early on Sundays so we headed to the Shell petrol stated and bought some pringles, water, juice and had baguette and brie. We also had stuffed ourselves with the free bar snacks of olives ...
Tahiti, French Polynesia paul_lucy... managed to get Le Truck into town which was pretty cool. It´s the Tahitian public transport which is a truck with side benches in the back. The windows are open so there is excellent airconditioning. We found the roulettes pretty quickly. There was so much choice: crepe, pizza, poission cru, chinese, hong kong, tahitian that we couldn´t make a choice and had to wander around a few times. We finally ...
Tahiti, French Polynesia paul_lucyI was passing through Tahiti on the way to Easter Island and only stayed two days so I didn´t have time to go diving, however, there are many places to go snorkelling on the beaches and bays. The water was warm and clear so it was easy to see the fish and marine life, however there wasn´t much in the way of sea plants. I don´t know the name of any of the fish I saw but many of them were quite pretty.
Tahiti, French Polynesia madventures... humpback whales, and stopped at the 'Lagoonarium' where we got to swim with turtles, rays, and sharks. It was scary at first, but the rays like to rub up against you and be petted so I got used to them. Although later when we saw a HUGE one in front of our hostel it was still kind of creepy. In the words of a lady on our tour, they are simply majestic. The lagoon tour made a complete circle around Moorea which is probably about ½ the size of ...
