Nesebar looks a lot like any other seaside town in that every other shop is selling souvenirs or beach equipment that is the same as the souvenirs and beach equipment being sold two shops down the road, four shops down the road, etc. Every now and then there's an appealing little shop selling art or ...

The area also has the largest Kalashnikov factory in Bulgaria (though it doesn't pay any patent royalties to the Russians). This means that Kazanluk can be called, yes, the town of Guns & Roses. Between the roses and the guns, unemployment in the area is only four percent.

We entered Bulgaria with the anticipation of better roads. This anticipation was fulfilled.

Democracy came to Bulgaria in 1990, being a Soviet ally for almost 40 years prior, however, to our naive eyes, born into a democratic world, it seems no one told the Bulgarians!

The remnants of the soviet communist influences weigh heavily on this land, especially in the architecture.
