... out into the woodland and feel as if you are part of it. The sculpture park was added in 1961, Ian was delighted to find Seurat's La Chahut which is another name for the can-can. He was also dismayed to find that we had just missed an exhibition of Seurat's which closed in early Sept. There were a number of early Mondrian's but I don't like them nearly as much as the one shown. An early work of Van Gogh's The Potato Eaters has just been cleaned at the Getty institute ...

... dutch and kisses, and soon were catching up with our relatives and sharing stories about Canada which intrigued them immensely, particularly when we were describing what 'poutine' was.

In the evening, and it is still light out here even at 10:30, we witnessed a glorious sunset before retiring from the days events.

... out we'd been upgraded to a deluxe room, which we soon found out meant climbing up a ladder into the roof to get to the bed - we've been told this is typical in many apartments and homes in Holland (so we were happy we were living like the locals for two days or so). Our view from the room looked right out onto the water and the bustling street near Central Station, and the hotel was ideally located.

... like it. We carried on our stroll after we'd eaten and found the windmill which was supposed to be a working windmill but I saw no such evidence! There was a bit of grass next to it and we sat down and chilaxed - Nadiah ended up napping for 10 mins! It was pretty cold, despite the sunshine and so we decided we needed to warm up and found a lovely cafe with a lovely lady - and a much needed toilet! ... was a bit of a downer but we were all prepared with brollies so it wasn’t too bad. We ambled along in the rain with Nico and Else pointing out places of interest along the way until we stopped at a very nice bar – full of people but we managed to find stools at the bar.
