Dance competitions and bad ass monks

... and they won the competition against two other schools. They'll now qualify to go on to a regional competition.

Sunday I asked Kham Chuen if we could go with the older kids to the local temple for meditation. Dressed ready for the temple (covered in white), forgot a hat and sun cream as thought we be inside, then it turns out there was a change of plan - the monks wanted the kids to help out at a meditation centre with ...

... for problem solving like they are at home. It is a different way of behaving or conducting oneself, and there are times where you just feel like you need an outlet. A room with your best friend where you can just talk freely. But instead I go to my bungalow at night and the washing machine continues, from stories I hear to things I see, its intense, it makes me feel alive. My poor mum when she visits me at the end of the month is going to be my springboard, my ...

Crazy Caving in Soppong!!

... with a lattern...I had my own private guide so it felt like I got the full "creepy effect" of being in this huge cave. Very cool....but it took a lot of my energy, and I had to go lie down right after...but thankfully I could lie down in the sunshine next to the river! Cave Lodge is a good place to do nothing much. The next morning I was ready to head off again on the bus, and I woke up saying "hurray, I feel better"...and made the mistake of eating breakfast! By the time I ...

White Water Rafting on the River Pai

Two days - white water rafting down the river Pai through the jungle good fun gettng very wet as well as a bit of wildlife with two Cobra's sunning them on the banks. Team work was good - 4 of us on board with Capitain Bo shouting behind. yes, the result from Go Go Go was sore bottoms and sore arms. although in dry season, the challenge was still there - all wet for 2 days including many water fights with the french family from the other raft LOL!!!

... massive cave entrance I noticed a staircase leading straight up into the cave maybe 30 meters high. From on top I saw a camera's flash. Then noticed two people making there way down. I made my way toward them to investigate where they had been. Maybe this was the coffin cave after all? I passed them, an older gentlemen with white smock and wild helmet with flames on the side. I said to myself this is a burner or ex hippy or easy going ...

... line up in a pond in front of the cave where they swim in never to be seen again. No one knows where they go, but Jeremy is pretty sure theres a tuna factory at the end of the mystery. We continued on our journey which took us through many small villages and ended in Ma Aw, a Chinese village at the Burmese border. There are very few Thais in this part of the country, the population is almost completely made up of hill tribes and other refugees from Burma.

... relationships. I had massive mood swings- from happy to despondent to frustrated to joyous all within the span of an hour's time. On the bad days, I had a hard time staying in the present. It reminded me of when I was a little kid and my family used to take the four-hour drive up to Queens to see my grandmother. The minute my brother and I walked in the door, she gave us a big hug and said, "It's been so long since I've seen you! When ...

... upper temple is beautiful, as is the view of the valleys below. The only unfortunate part of the upper temple is the presence of a coffee shop and the ever-present sellers of garland, amulets, and the like. The Wats shouldn't have vendors in these areas, it's just wrong on so many levels. Anyway, we toured the upper area for about 25 minutes before heading towards the stairs and admiring (and dreading) the upcoming climb down. At least down is easier than up. After ...

trek day 1

After a quiet evening of shopping at the night market . . . HA HA no such thing! The markets are a battle ground! The first challenge is just walking - You have to dodge all the other shoppers, the determined sellers, cars, tuk-tuks, motos, and random dogs just to walk down the sidewalk. Then it's the task of eyeing the product without getting roped in. Once you find something you like the "fun" part begins - bargaining. I am very bad at this ...
