... bigger waterway Markvliet kanaal which was very straight with big bridges. Then we went on to the Dintel and 1 lock to get us on to the Volkerak, a main waterway the lock didn’t seem to move any water up or down, but obviously it is there for security when the water levels are different. When we were in the lock, the weather started to change with dark clouds rolling in and the wind started to kick up, so it was on with ...

After going down to deck 9, and exploring all the cafes and facilities, we managed to snaffle a table right at the front (okay bow). Watched the world go by over a couple of drinks, and then watched as we left port. Last year we saw the birth of the Rhine, and this year we went out the mouth.

Back home it was time to rhyme as tomorrow is the highlight of the year for children with the delightful evening of St Nick and black Peter. it may turn out to be a late night after which it is back to our soft ...

Currency and language problems

... br> I went back to the machine and there was no direct train to Amsterdam. Obviously, I had missed the 6.30 train. I looked at the map and saw that I might be able to get some connection from Schiedam. I asked the machine to give me the ticket for the next train. It asked me to put coins in the slot and I started. I think it took me around 2 minutes to complete the transaction.

I reached Schiedam and some nice guy guided me to the train for Amsterdam. I was so relieved.
