Historical Traveler Reviews TRYP By Wyndham Koeln City Centre Cologne
Great for a weekend
Stayed for two nights for a weekend away. Staff very good and helpful, room very good, breakfast very good, great location near the station, and short walk to the river although if you do leave the window open you may hear the station anouncements but it did not bother me. We got a good deal and enjoyed the stay would stay here again.
Great hotel but....
Just got back from 3 nights at the Euro Garden at the weekend.
Firstly i would like to say that the hotel is very clean, the staff are helpful and friendly, the breakfast is very good with a good selection of hot and cold food as well as tea, coffee, juices etc, the room was a good size (we had a twin). From what i could see there was 1 internet PC but i think you had to pay for it. You can also get access to the sauna on the 5th floor by asking at reception for the key, rooms are serviced daily. The bar prices were also very reasonable for a hotel in this area. We were also able to leave our bags in the hotel because we had an evening departure, i was also able to keep the room on for a few hours extra at no charge, they staff really coundn't have been more helpful.
We stayed at Hotel Leonet last year and the difference between the 2 hotels was amazing although both were supposed to be 4 star, Euro Garden was much superior.
Location is excellent being just behind the train station (where you can get something to eat or drink pretty much 24h a day, which is handy if like me you like to stay out until the early hours). So getting the train from the airport is so handy, you are literally less than 5 minutes walk around the corner (plus its only 2 euro 20 cents and takes about 20 minutes, its worth it just to see what a properly run public transport system looks like !!!).
Now the downside, personally we found the room incredibly hot and stifling, even when opening the window and putting on the fan in the room. Also, if you are planning on going to stay at this hotel be aware that there is a massive construction operation currently being carried out on the road between the station and the hotel, this was extremely noisy, we had to choose to have the window open and listen to drilling etc or have it closed and put up with the heat.
To sum up, great hotel with nice staff, facilities, location and breakfast but let down by the road construction and hot room. Better buy some ear plugs !!
Friendly staff, great location
I stayed at the Euro Garden for 3 nights in December. The room was modern, clean, with a good sized bathroom. All staff I encountered, from the receptionist, to the housekeeping staff, were attentive and friendly. Breakfast was great, full buffet included in the room price. Great location, right near the train station and underground, just 10 minutes from the Dom.
I would definately return to this hotel, it offered everything you could want for a stay in this beautiful city.
Friendly, close and comfortable
Booked online in the US, got a great rate and was very pleased with the hotel. I was in Cologne for 2 weekdays of business. A short walk out the back of the train station, right off a main street. The staf was very friendly as I tried to check in early (8:30 am). They offered to call me (and did) as soon as the room was ready (11:30). Since check in was at 3, I was pleased. Very nice breakfast with lots of service. Although my window faced out to main road, it was not that bad and I did not hear the trains at the station.
Situated behind the station this hotel is ideally placed if arriving from the airport by the S-Bahn.
All places of interest are within walking distance and the U-Bahn is practically on the doorstep.
Everything about the hotel is excellent although the presence of a large fan in the room suggests that in hot weather there may be a problem.
The immediate area is not particularly attractive but not far away is an interesting street called the Eigelstein.
Great Value and Location
I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights and the end of July 2005. The hotel is situated in a quiet location just behind the main trainstation and about 5 mins walk from the Cathedral and main shopping area. Friendly staff and vwey clean rooms. The only reason is got 4 stars is that even though the weather was not especially hot, the room was very warm even with the windows open.
I recommend this hotel and will be staying here again for New Years Eve.
I have just come back from a five day stay at Euro Garden and found the hotel to be very good value for money. The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly. The room was a decent size and clean and well maintained. Housekeeping was very good and requests for extra pillows and bathrobes were quickly organised by the housekeeping staff. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of food and was well maintained.
The hotel is a very short walk from the main HBF trainstation. It is on the quieter side of the station with the main Cathedral being on the other side. The only negative factor about the hotel is it is located down a small side street which can be quiet and a little secluded if walking home alone at night.
Overall an excellent hotel which I would visit again.

... I get off the tram to a quiet platform in a quaint neighborhood, walk as directed and I was met half way by Tory and the kids. Anyway, back to Cologne Cathedral. There is evidence of a church at this site from the 4th C onwards. The current Cathedral was commenced in 1248 as the relics of the Three Magi drew the faithful in pilgrimmages from across Europe. Begun in 1248, for a variety of reasons, ...

We got to sleep in a bit longer this morning, so the jet lag is about gone by now. The ship docked in Cologne around 10 AM and we disembarked for buses into the city about 10:30. I was so excited to finally see Germany, since Bob had lived here for 3 years while serving in the USAF back in the VietNam era days. He was stationed not too far from Cologne in a small town near the East/West German border.
We were dropped off by the Cathedral of Cologne where a local ...
