So, after all the waiting we did, we are actually in Germany! The plane wasn't very comfortable, and a couple of us were forced into seats that didn't recline (making sleeping hard, painful work) but we didn't crash and burn, so thats a plus! But anyway, we're in Germany now! A new country and continent! This is really cool for those of us who have never been out of the country before! Well, I guess that's all that has happened so far. Yes! So magically, the flight managed to squeeze in over THIRTY extra people including us! It was supposed to leave at 2am, but it left around 4. There were even empty seats so that we could move and lay down/stretch out! Very nice.
Arrived in Ramstein around 4:30pm their time ...
Taking the ICE (high speed) train to Germany put us in Saarbrucken in less than 2I/2 hours. Helmut and Imgard Kerchner were there to greet us. We drove to Landstuhl and there saw Werner and Lennie Rosenberg. We stayed in the spacious guest apartment that Werner and Lennie have in their home and it was very comfortable. Then we opened up the Sekt (German champagne) and the Bitburger and had a party. Werner started his new super grill and we had ...
... and the overgrown bunkers. Almost at the end I missed a junction (again) and got back on the trail almost at the beginning and walked back to the parking lot there. That was it. Like I said, it's a short trek, only about 3 hours long. Yesterday it was perfect. I got out again, I didn't do a lot of stuff like this the last few years, but this is going to change now.
