    On the Road Again

A 4:30 start had us pack our final few things and then follow the coast line to the airport as the sun rose over the ocean. Not many beach goers at this hour but we did see one or two people out, believe it or not. There was a dog laying on the pavement sound asleep. Probably found it cooler there although he/she does live dangerously I must say. After a long wait in what didn't seem like a very long line-up, we checked in at Lamezia ...

... even more heavenly by the fresh basil she had me add. We ate at the table made of chestnut, that was given to her by her mother, and then extended by my Uncle. She gave Louise and I each a parting gift of a beautiful set of white cotton sheets and pillowcases. I was glad we were able to spend some time with her.

I went to the beach today as all my cousins were there and it is our last opportunity to go as tomorrow will be spent packing and visiting. The ocean was quite calm and it's registering about 37 C. today so the beach was very crowded. Lunch at the house was a scattered affair as everyone arrived back at various times and some ate before hand or weren't eating until later. I made Almond Biscotti right after lunch and left them to cool (although that kitchen has to ...

Louise and Deron made pancakes for all at the house while Rob and I had a slow sleep-in morning. By the time we got down to the house, Fabrizio and family were just finishing up and heading to the beach. The Tetts were heading to the grocery store to pick up a few things and Rob and I stayed back so I could learn to make something called "susumedi" (spelling unknown!!!). My mom used to make these and I can't find anyone at home that makes this very old, traditional dessert. It ...

Exploring and Burning Rubber in Southern Italy

Today we decided to take a drive to wherever the car took us and a Deron joined us in our little adventure. Before we left we met a newlywed couple from England, at breakfast. They are touring Italy by motorcycle and just happened to find Cleto and La Gioiosa on booking.com and are loving it here as much as we are. We left about 9:40 and headed East to the Ionian Sea on the southeast coast of Italy, taking in the beautiful scenery and really varied ...
