      ... which involves either standing on a chunk of metal that digs into the snow, or deploying a snow hook which does exactly what its name suggests and is akin to a car's handbrake.

      Before we left the Lofoten Islands we decided to visit a Viking museum located about a 45 min. drive from Kabelvag. The museum includes a recreation of a very large Viking lord's longhouse based on an archaeological find in a farmer's field.
