Heading to Australia!

Ah ha! Two weeks in Australia? Are you crazy, Mate? You'll spend more time travelling than enjoying! Well, that is what I heard time and time again, but i thought, "I only have 2 weeks; do I NOT go or do what I can?". Off we went! Scott, Brooke, Mark and me...and man oh man, am i glad I did!!!! March 7, 2008 seemed like an enternity away when I was planning this 'trip of a lifetime' and suddenly, there it was! Mother nature played tricks on us and decided to dump Toronto's worse snow storm si...

Sydney Australia

Of course if you will stay walking distance harbour you should never miss to see the Opera house and the sydney bridge not just one time but during day time, sunset, and night time ( you will agree with me if you love taking pix!). Another suggestion is for you to ride a tram to roam the city, this is a day tour (a lot to see, promise!). If its summer, its worth going to Bondi Beach, i feel like im in a bay watch tv series. Dont let me compare Philippines' beaches because its really different...

Syndey

Eindelik Sydney... Is baie opgewonde.

(Jim) Sydney is a great town, though there is one aspect of life here that seems odd to the American visitor. Alcohol consumption in Australia is ubiquitous, enthusiastic and unapologetic. A local newspaper's Friday edition had a cover story on "Best Places to Get Hammered This Weekend." Given the strong strain of neo-Puritanism that is so evident in the U. S. and Europe these days, complete with zero-tolerance policies on drinking and driving, seeing the in-your-face promotion of drinking he...

Sticker Shock

Sydney is a gorgeous city! We just loved walking about the city, enjoying the skyline, Harbor Bridge, Opera House, parks, architecture & art etc. etc. However, we weren't mentally prepared for the cost of things. The train ride from the airport to downtown was $15 a person! A meal at one of the take-out/food courts was 10-15$. We were in sticker shock after coming from SE Asia, where a decent restaurant meal was $3-5 and we could rent private transportation the whole day for $12 for both ...

Back to the Land Up Above

I realize I have missed a few days of blogging, and no worries, I'll fill you in on those later.

It's now time for this sheila (female) and bloke (male) to see if all their luggage will fit in the boot (trunk) of their car and choof off (depart) from the Land Down Under. We have a breather (short rest) here at the Sydney Marriott (or casino for some) prior to catching our flights out in the a.m. I miss my dish-lickers (dogs) and I'm ready to head home. I have enjoyed the cool weather ...

I Don't Needa Aida

Today started off poorly. I had arranged a tour to depart at 7:30 a.m and was at my departure spot at the appointed time. The concierge informed me that the driver was running "a little behind", so I waited and waited. Around 8:30 the concierge came up to me looking grim and informed me that the tour guide had forgotten me altogether and therefore I wouldn't be taking the tour. I was not a Happy Camper to say the least but I didn't let it show, as it wasn't the concierge's fault. The good new...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Sydney Harbour Marriott

One of the top hotels in Sydney

from giantsfan2
This is one of the top hotels in Sydney. The location is perfect - just one block from Circular Key, right by the Rocks, and within easy walking distance of the Opera House and the Harbor Bridge. The room had a very comfortable king bed with multiple pillows and a comforter. The room was spacious and nicely furnished. I stayed here twice and once had a city view and once a partial view of the harbor bridge. I think you have to pay more to get a nice view. Service and staff were excellent.

The elevator problem

from Koen from Belgium
I stayed in the hotel for five nights in July 2003 for business. It is a very nice hotel: nice, modern, comfortable rooms, excellent food and breakfast buffet and nice location, few steps away from Circular Quay, the OPera House and the Harbour Bridge. The view was a bit disappointing, mostly blocked by surrounding buildings (I was only at the 10th floor or so), but I did have a view of the Harbour Bridge, although not fully.

The fast internet connection in my room wasn't working. I was told they would have a look at it. One day later it was still not working, I went back to the reception and they offered me to move to another room.

But the biggest and by far most annoying problem of the hotel was the elevator, especially to go to/from breakfast when the hotel was crowded during the weekend. I was much quicker going up or down by foot to the 10th floor than the elevator. Without exageration: I often had to wait much more then 5 minutes for the elevator (that is VERY long if you are just standing there), to finally find the elevator loaded to its absolute maximum capacity so that I could not fit into it anymore... They urgently need more elevators or an express elevator system.

Loved the Harbour Marriott

from A TripAdvisor Member
Our family just returned from a two week trip to Australia. We stayed at the Sydney Harbour Marriott for three nights upon arrival and one before our departure. Everything was wonderful. We had connecting Opera view rooms which we had requested. But the best thing about this hotel for international travellers is their Early Arrivals Lounge. Since we arrived at the hotel at 8:00AM, and obviously our rooms were not ready, it was so great to be able to shower and change our clothes after our long planes flights! Plus, the Harbour Marriott is only few minutes from Circular Quay, George St., the Botanical Gardens. Perfect location.

I love SHM!

I have stayed at the Sydney Harbour Marriott on a number of occasions and have had the most wonderful stays everytime.

The Staff are always very helpful especially Concierge (David & Scott).

Of course the hotel just happens to have what could be considered one of the worlds greatest views!

Would highly recommended to any traveller visiting Sydney.

What a wonderful hotel!

We stayed here for part of our honeymoon and were extremely impressed with the level of service we received!

We were upgraded free of charge and therefore had use of the executive lounge and the staff were incredibly helpful and polite and remembered to greet us by name.

The entertainment in the lobby in the evenings was fantastic and the bar staff were discreet yet attentive at the same time.

A wonderful base for our honeymoon.

Fantastic Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Sydney Harbour Marriott is one of the most beautiful hotels in Sydney.

The rooms are very large and comfortable. The view rooms with either the Opera House or the Sydney Harbour Bridge are Fantastic.

The breakfast buffet and the food in general is to die for.

Service is first class and friendly. The hotel is 1 block from the Rocks area and Circular Quay.

I Highly recommend this hotel

Just an amazing hotel....

from montognese
I stayed at this property for two nights in January '04. The location is ideal, and it's very easy to take the train from the airport and just walk a few blocks. There are a ton of things to do in this area, I never even took a cab anywhere because you could walk so many places.

The room was wonderful. It was modern but not opullent. The bed was very comfortable, the TV large and they have shutters for the windows so you don't see any light. There is very good soundproofing going on.

The high speed internet worked well. I also had access to the concierge lounge, which is one of the best in the business.

My only complaint is that I wish the hotel pool was outdoors as opposed to indoors, but it was nice enough and the health club is great.

I highly recommend this property to anyone going to Sydney. You'll love it.

Great Hotel Buffet

from A TripAdvisor Member
Good standard hotel, all staff very friendly and helpful! Room views if city side are not good, but the location makes up for it, very very close to the rocks and circular quay. Hotel buffet was great for seafood fans!

Sydney Harbor Marriott was terrific!

from A TripAdvisor Member
The name of this hotel is now the Sydney Harbor Marriott. We used our reward points, but paid a little extra for the "opera/harbor view." The service, accomodations and view were terrific! And, we were right in the heart of Sydney within walking distance of the Opera, the Rocks, the Botanical Gardens, the ferries, and more. We would definitely stay there again.

Sydney Renaissance-Wonderful

from A TripAdvisor Member
A wonderful hotel in an ideal location just 2 minutes walk from Circular Quay and the Rocks the one way and a 5 minute walk to the shops the other. Theres also a handy 24 hr shop right opposite the hotel. They were undergoing major refurbishment when we were visiting and only saw the reception area when it was half finished. However, I am sure that when the work has been completed it will be fabulous. If you like a bit of class stay here-its much nicer and in a far better location than the ANA hotel
