Ograde Hvar, Hvar Island, Croatia, 21450
... day and the first day I've worn thongs since Bruges!!!!
Walked to the beach and waded in the water but too cold to go swimming.
Went to Fife for dinner which was recommended by Peter from the hostel and also the barman on Friday night as the best place in town to get good local food at local prices.
Had an awesome meal of Sarma (mince wrapped in cabbage leaves) and Fozol - bean and ham dish.
Sunday went to market ...
... chilled out and went to bed.
Of course what we didn’t know is that the next day, the island was going to experience a full on storm. We were told it might rain a little that day, but raining a little was a big understatement. From the time we woke up the next morning until after we left two days later, it was POURING down rain and VERY windy. We were house-bound for 2 days. The only time we went out was one evening when the rain ...
... an hour as they swam amongst the few boats. The sun has been shining all day and we have done absolutely nothing! After breakfast we walked down to the beach, which is just a short walk from where we have parked at the campsite. Then, we played a board game and had lunch, followed by going for a swim in the ocean and relaxing on the rocks. We are about to catch the ferry from our campsite into the small town of Trogir; we can ...
Seget Vranjica, Splitsko-Dalmatinska, Croatia armajor7... an average of 10hrs a day) mixed in with book reading, listening to my iPod, and playing various card games. Favourite on deck was Sh*thead (also known as Fish T*ts), warloads/presidents and poker. Constantly if not always you had a drink in hand - common choice was beer.
By about mid-morning we would come to our swim stop. Most times it was early morning and it was fricken cold!! The sun hadn't quite warmed you up and by the time you jumped in, you were more than happy to get ...
... days having Mario cook us yummy meals at home... he's pretty awesome. Today its Halloween but I think the town is too small to really celebrate it - no pumpkins anywhere! We're going to head down to explore the town properly and maybe have a drink to celebrate the spooky day. Highlight: I managed to skim two stones!!!!! Low point: the wind has definitely brought a bit of a chill factor but its still beautiful
Hvar, Hvar Island, Croatia francethedance... to be in Greece right now, and I have only just arrived in Korcula, with Dubrovnik still to come. Here's why. By what seems to be my new modus operandi, I landed on Hvar and crept through the net of sobe renters. Armed with my Lonely Planet guide, I once again struck out on my own to track down a recommended guesthouse. Now, the guide does also warn that it's amazingly easy to get lost in the maze of steep stairways and narrow ...
Hvar, Croatia packingitin... August in the height of the season VIP's hang out here (they mention Gerard Depardieux drinking the cheapest red wine in the house, and some others whose name I forget), and you have to reserve a table, but in September there are fewer tourists and you can, and here I quote from the guidebook 'go for some egalitarian shimmying a deux on the dance floor'. Alice and I rock up and order drinks - Alice orders a Cosmopolitan and I order a Margarita (the ...
Hvar, Croatia everardt... a little antsy - especially since we wanted to keep an eye on bags and seats etc so it was only 1 by 1 that we moved around. First port of call was Korcula where we noticed many backpackers get off and others back on. Korcula looked pretty as per the photos but seemed very similar to Dubrovnik so we don't think we missed a lot. 2hrs later we passed Hvar and wished we could get off; especially when we saw the ...
Hvar, Croatia paul_and_mandy... also rent a motor schooter to go around the island. Stayed - Lukas Lodge (Friendly hostel, Lucka's Place, I am not sure he knows the name yet!) - loved it he was so nice and accommodating, really a great host to the area and his home. This is his phone number 385 917 347 230, email luka.viskovic@st.t-com.hr. It was close to the beach and town, easy to walk everywhere. He cooked us a wonderful seafood dinner one night. There are tons of people down at the ships trying to get ...
Hvar, Hvar Island, Croatia sasull... trees, grape vines and flowering bougainvillea vines make natural canopies shading the marble paths. A long boardwalk skirts the shore and leads towards a small harbor in Hvar center. Small sailboats dock near a white marble plaza, which is flanked by restaurant patios and leads to a church. Above the town is a 13th century castle built to protect the town from invasion. Walking along the periphery of the main plaza, dried fig samples tempted us into a ...
