The hotel staff are great. They give me ice for the ice packs, heat the gel pack for the heat belt in the microwave, fix dinners on a tray so I can carry them up to our room, and ask how Allen is doing.

We have a long sleepless night. Allen is sure there is something more going on than just his back. The pain in his left thigh is excruciating and spasms whenever he sits up or stands. At one time 98% of the students were enrolled in medicine and law. ...

We have lunch in the square near the hotel. This time we try cockles. They are very tiny mussels cooked in butter with sliced garlic and they are delicious!

Saturday night is the worst one yet. Allen is in agony ...

The old university dominates the city and still today this is a university town. It is well worth the visit. You can visit the old library which is fabulously decorated with timbers and gold from Brazil and China. This library would have been one of the best in Europe in its time. Books can still be taken out of the library today by university personnel. The building was designed to keep an ...
