After the 8 hour journey we just wanted to get to a hotel room and rest. The first hotel in the book turned out to be a failure and they were fully booked, so on to the next one in the book which was on the other side of the station. We decided to get a cycle rickshaw to the other side as we had our massive bags and didn’t want to further knacker ourselves out.

Many have often indicated to us that one of the barriers to travelling in India would be the (wrongly held view about) accommodation. Friends have suggested that quite inferior hotels etc would be the norm. How wrong is this !! Rather the complete opposite. In many of the hotels (as was the case in 2014), the "western" equivalent would have been far beyond the budget we would have set. Far superior facilities and eating venues than we usually experience. So ...
