... Living Museum is a large open air museum with houses, shops, mines, collierys and even a canal bridge that have been relocated from around the black country brick by brick, the only original features are the canal itself and the limestone kilns, although the tops had to be extensively repaired and they are only reach a few feet above ground level rather than going meters into the air.

They seem to be constantly expanding, I'm sure last time I was there they didn't ...

... Time for lunch with Jim and Val, they own Rose Cottage where Mary's dad was born and lived in his childhood. Great to catchup. Back to our hotel, my plan was to go to the bistro, have a little drink and write my blog. Got the first part done okay. The Sat Nav said it would be a 5 hour drive. Turn left, turn left again, then follow the road to Carlisle and continue to Birmingham. Easy. All was going well with Mary taking photos of wind farms - lots of them. After 2 1/2 hours we stopped at a Roadhouse service. Two coffees and two toasted sandwiches for £20, about $45! What the Sat Nav doesn't consider is the strange delays on the motorways. For no apparent reason, traffic slows down, even stops, ...

... 8 to ask if Mac wants a walk to the shop with the dog with him. Yes-sir-ee. Off they trot on an hours walk with poor wee Frankie. Gold! To be fair I've felt a little tired and heady from the red wine I drank last night, slow morning. We look at cars on autotrader - cheap little runabout easily got for less than £2,000 incl. The equivalent of WOF & Rego, but insurance about £800 over and above, full year though so ...

... past the Radcliffe Camera. Had a peak inside the OUP bookstore. Left Oxford early to go past Woodstock. Couldn't go into Blenheim Palace, which closes on Tuesdays. Only saw the big memorial column from the road. Equally pretty is Stow-on-the-Wold, where we parked our car and dropped off our bag. It was in the market square here where the Royalists were finally defeated in the First Civil War, with 200 slaughtered in the ...
