... It is well known for its sand sculpture festival, running from May to October each year. The theme for the sculptures this year was Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales. As well as the impressive sand sculptures, there were timber and metal sculptures. Inside, they had a rock'n'roll museum, heavily focussed on Elvis. They had many items on display. We then drove further north along the coast to Hirtshals, where we visited an Oceanarium. They had a number of large ...

Today we anticipated a bright, warm, sunny day (the first!) so naturally it rained. Well to be fair, it rained during the night and our bright idea to leave some hatches open wasn't so clever, but at least it woke us up and no harm done. By the morning it had cleared and the weather was super all day, warm, bright and breezy – from the wrong direction for us but who cares, we weren’t sailing!

We’d ...

... to avoid climbing the inland hills again and whilst the route back was longer, it was less strenuous. By now it was pouring, so we were now prime contenders for any wet t shirt & or wet shorts competition! We did raise a few eyebrows when, almost back at the boat, we called into the small supermarket for bread and an afternoon cake. I don’t believe they had ever seen anyone quite so wet in their store!

... a diagonal relative to the wind. All of this effort was finally rewarded and she looked fine and secure, especially after I’d attached additional lines and another buoy. She ain’t going anywhere now!

It’s good to be reminded now and then just how difficult boats can be to handle when the wind is blowing. 11 ++ tons of boat with 16 knots blowing on the side is heavy, impossibly so when it is gusting and just about ...
