Nanshan Temple and Canal Trip

A travel blog entry by caroline63 on Nov 01, 2015

We went back to Casa Zoe's for breakfast after moving from the Kempinski Hotel back to the Gran Park Hotel for work tomorrow. We then went to visit the Nanshan Temple, and walked around a market area, a bit like Confucius Temple area in Nanjing with small shops and stalls.

We then took a lovely boat trip down the Grand Canal (which we have been on in Hangzhou also), stopping off at a hand-made brick museum. Another lovely day.

The Chinese students were extremely receptive despite their fear of making mistakes while speaking English. I know that the students felt like celebrities as their students showered ours with gifts. This reaffirmed the reason for the trip and the priceless experience ...

... the "Venice of China" because of its canals and waterways. We spent the rest of our time wandering along the old street in Santangjie village. The street is very traditional but the shops are the usual souvenirs you'd see in Vancouver 's Chinatown. What was interesting was the large number of Chinese tourists buying this stuff. The people in Szuhou are very friendly. Many Chinese tourists like to take pictures of us and especially like having their picture taken with our ...
