... by the family that run it. Kota Bharu didn't have a lot to offer. We tried to see some of the museums and usual tourist attractions but the heat was unbearable to walk in. We managed to look around it's main attraction which is it's markets and we sampled some of the food at the night market but after this was done, we were ready to leave.

Nigel: The other reason why we went up to Kota Bharu was to catch the train which is commonly known as the jungle train. Its a track that ...
Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia shunny81... spend the last night together!! Sad but true!!

We head for a super quick outside shower and guess what...the frog is there!!ha ha!! Unbelievable!! This frog has sat on my toilet, on top of my shower, on my towel, on my window sill, on my foot and on my last day it is here too!! Maybe I really should kiss it and find out if it's my prince...

I didn't end up kissing the frog by the way so no charming prince pour moi...YET!!

We hop ...

Perhentian, Kelantan, Malaysia gledipinnar... go inside the ship which was surprising because you're supposed to have your Wreck Diver certification to do that. Shortly after coming back to the shop I signed up for a reef dive. There were lots of cool sea creatures to see but I was told that the visibility is usually much better. This island is famous for its dive sites and I can definitely see why. Hopefully the viz is better tomorrow.
Perhentian Island, Kelantan, Malaysia dfleege... we headed to a cheap guest house....and stayed for one night (Cha Guest House) Really nice friendly people but there were so many bugs in our room and our bed that by the next day ( I am so caught up that this is now Yesterday that I am talking about) we decided to move. Through monsoon rains we found our next spot... a huge improvement, although we share a bathroom... it has hot water wooowoooo... and there are no bugs, and it is $50 baht cheaper. Excellent. We haven't got up to too much ...
Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia heatherlindsay... the shocking clarity and hues of blue and turquoise(not the Gilis, but starting to find out that nothing compares to that trio of paradise). There are two islands that make up the Perhentians; one big for higher end and one small for backpackers, we ended up at the latter. It consists of two sides; Long beach and Coral beach. Coral beach is smaller with less accommodation and restaurants, but with better snorkeling and more privacy. Long beach is a perfect beach in ...
Perhentians, Malaysia mericanomad... and we were joined by several other tourists.. be careful with your little ones though.. you'll never know who might be playing with them behind your back --> There was still plenty of time after breakfast so we headed off to a playground behind the Bubu Office just along the coast.. Good, quiet place to hang out away from the bustle of the pier area where we can laze on the benches by ...
Kuala Besut, Malaysia gin_gy... busier stretch of sand on the other side with some impressive waves. We hung out with two guys we met on our snorkelling trip at a BBQ on the beach where Sag tried shark, and spent the later part of the evening at the dive bar for an emotional farewell, and a promise to return. Hope you enjoy the photos. We're now in Cambodia after catching a flight out of Kuala Lumpur, and loving it. The next update should be coming soon. Lots of love, Sag and Sar xx
Kota Bharu, Malaysia sar-and-sag... Malaysia does allow and sell alcohol, we did not see a drop for sale anywhere. Even our guesthouse had a posted sign up stating that if you do drink on their property, you are forbidden to dispose of bottle/can in their trash bin if it contained any alcohol. We finally got there and found Zeck's Travelers Inn, a false recommendation by Lonely Planet. It was not the best but it was for only one night (40 RM for a private room with shared bath - about $12 USD). We ...
Kota Bharu, Malaysia slipperycoconutSorry I haven't posted in a bit; island and jungle internet service can be a bit sporadic. Anyway, last week I spent five days out in the perhentian islands, about 20 km off of the coast. It was a gorgeous little island - there were hordes of people, but nobody really left the beach, so once you swam around the headland there was nobody there. My major accomplishment for the week was having a day where I spent more waking hours in the water than on ...
