... of diversity. He gave me his booklet of his works (sculpture). His work seems very strong, but at the same time I felt like I could see something gentle and calm in his work. Most of the Ainu people I met are like that... they are very passionate and dedicated, but at the same time, they are very calm and relaxed. Somehow, Hawaiians are like them. I also visited the town called Nibutani in Hidaka region. This current movement of Ainu culture renaissance really ...

As I arrived before the official start of the festival, I was able to see the sculptures being made which was both interesting, and mindboggling... I met up with Rich, the English guy that I'd met in Kyoto, and we had a good few days together, drinking plenty of beer. The 100 Yen Post

We're in Sapporo now and it's absolutely amazing. However the hostel is charging ten yen per freaking minute to use the internet - which adds up to roughly $10 AUD an hour. So there won't be any further posts until we reach Tokyo again in another three days.

Missing you all,
Tom and Rachael
... market. We ended up in a little sushi and sashimi place that had decent prices, but to the delight of a lot of people, Sapporo Classic. An aside on Sapporo Classic-this beer can only be found in Hokkaido and is perhaps the smoothest and best Japanese beer in existence. After I had stuffed my gut full of salmon, king crab, and lobster, we headed to the park and caught a glimpse of the day's festivities. The park turned out to be immensely crowded with ...

... out on thursday night to drive to Sapporo. It was a least a 6-hour drive to the other end of the island with most of that being done in complete darkness. It's a shame to because I know we passed through some really interesting mountain passes, right by Daitsetsuzan...Since there is no main expressway for much of the route it was small roads, small roads, and more small roads. The Japanese like to keep there speed limits low, say around 50 km, but everyone usually goes about 80 or ...
