Bali: Goodbye Big Dipper, Hello Southern Cross

... Low and behold, 15 minutes later, we see Steve walking up to us in a staggering, hungover daze. He apparently lost Matt the night before at the bar, woke up at 7am and came to the airport to buy a ticket, went back home and crashed for three hours and made his way back to the airport. Impressive. We were excited to be traveling to Lombok together. Our plane did not reach an incredibly high cruising altitude, given the 20 minute length of the flight ...

Party politics and prattle

Alright butts and buttesses? I'm fine as usual... Have been very active at work and been a bit too mouthy, also as usual. Had decided to try and get a bit of change going at work and consequently have been putting my hand up and making suggestions at staff meetings... unfortuneatly I am not the most tactful of people, (please keep your titters where they belong, inside your clothing). So rather than have a pleasant exchange of views with a wonderful outcome ...

Special Boom Boom

... on some very famous river. Compared to the Kicking Horse, this river was definitely more tame but so much warmer (no wet suit required!!) - safety maybe not so much as the Canadian tour but not scary. Our main guide explained all of his commands to start with my favourite being "Boom Boom!" which means duck in the boat. A "Special Boom Boom!" meant were all to sit on the floor of the raft and hang on for dear life. There was one ...

Sun, sea and self control, (bugger!)

... not a good idea to go any further and got him to drop me off at the end of my street. Even managed to avoid kissing him despite severe provocation on more than one occasion. Yay for unwarranted self control! Went to bed exhausted and happy, but fairly wound up, definitely the best night here so far, hope I find someone to settle down with before I have too many more, my body can't take that kind of abuse like it used to! Hmmm, better go butt's and buttesses, Love to you all, Ixxx

... by kids who are so happy to see you that they come after you, running, saluting you and screaming "hello"..and "money. money, money". It was still a very peaceful environment, in every way far away from the entertainment of Kuta. We spent the night in a delightful place, it was really one the best of my entire trip (so far), brand new bungalows, swimming pool, nice garden, sea view, absolutely luxury and we paid next to nothing because we were diving with the hotel ...

Island of the Gods

... an obvious target. But fortunately in Bali, although I am often hassled, there is kindness and warmth beneath it all. I have not felt threatened or scared at all, everyone is just trying to provide food for their children to eat. 50% of the population survives on $2/day, and tourism in Bali has taken a plunge since the bombings in 2002 and 2005, so everyone is just trying to make it. I am compassionate and respectful of that fact, although I'm still not going to ...

... and locals, and laughing it up at the waves of hawkers that would come thru and try to sell us anything and everything. They are so fun if you decide not to let them bother you, and just have fun with it, make jokes and speak to them in their language, and once they know you're not going to buy anything, they become genuinely friendlyand enjoy the interaction with us. ( i RULE at picking up new languages and i absolutely love it - it's my ...

Arrival in Bali

... is crazy busy and we are really pleased to be somewhere much quieter and relaxed. Yesterday I walked along the beach from Seminyak to Kuta to do some exploring. The beach is beautiful although in peak season (the dry season- June/July/Aug esp) it is supposed to be packed full of tourists which doesn't appeal to me at all so i'm really glad to be here in this much quiter time. The only disadvantage to coming out of season is that many locals who are so dependant upon ...

Last stop Bali..... or is it?

... Darwin was booked. All in the space of 2 days! (Come on guys, we all know Lauren has no backbone!) So all I had to do now was tell the best friend and the parentals about my 'slight' change of plans, and actually, being their pretty chilled out selves, were none-too-surprised that I'd decided to postpone the inevitable. And that was it - WOOHOO, on to the next leg of my adventure.....Australia here I come!!!
