... a couple of the local scenic spots and had arranged to get a lift to Echo Beach. Ruth had checked it out on Lonely Planet and it seemed that it was a great surfing haunt but not a lot else in the area so we were going to pay a bit extra and have Nyoman pick us up again in an hour since taxis aren’t always readily available. However when we went to meet Nyoman he told us the villa van had a mechanical issue and had gone to be fixed so instead the villa would pay ...

Around ...

... girl has to "lean in!" Earlier I noticed she was trying to take a picture of a local balinese woman dressed beautifully and carrying offerings on top of her head. I then suggest to her why not take pictures of 6 women from everywhere they go in this journey: Bali, Lombok, Jakarta, Cambodia, Thailand and Laos. She loved the idea and her friend said she will support her. When they left I told them that their first coconut was on me, they were so extremely happy ...

... crop - by hand! Walking past trays of drying vanilla pods picked off the vines, avoiding the falling coconuts being harvested from there's along the path. After a while we come to Rame's Silver Shop, in the middle of the ricefields, where we sit and have a Bali coffee and chat. Each year I visit Rame and buy some of his handmade silver earrings. The tools he uses to produce such fine work are so simple. He tells me he studied his craft in Yogyarkata in Java, saved ...
