A vacation from vacationing.

... I was still pretty exhausted and didn't have my head in the game the way I should have. I am sure that I will learn to stay closer to my camera in future ventures so I don't lose the memories of what makes all this travel so great.<br>

Bluegrass and Train Rides

... The bluegrass concert that delayed our departure from this park did not disappoint. People arrived from far and wide - Gulf Shores, Pensacola and north - from other RV parks and condos, just for the concert. There must have been close to a hundred people in the activity center. The group, the Chestanag Family Band, plays here about once a month and for special events and they share the venue with other groups. They specialize in bluegrass gospel ...

Into Alabama

... much above the mid fifties today - pleasant and sunny with a strong breeze out of the northwest. We stopped at the visitors center for the Gulf Islands National Seashore for lunch and a walk along the shore before continuing into Alabama, still on hwy 98. We did not see much of the shoreline in Alabama as the hwy is about a mile inland through agricultural land at this point. Our neighbor tonight tells us the beaches are even ...

Artisan Cheese Anyone?

... By now, Ellen Mike and the girls have joined us. So glad to have them here....but when faced with the family dinner of spaghetti or more seafood- Michael and I had to be on our way! Therefore we of course rounded out the day with more seafood. We had dinner at a local dump- right on a river under a bridge- we spied it while driving over- not bad: beer, shrimp. The highlight was fried pickles- ...... its been confirmed: we are in the south.

The Gulf Coast - a great place!

... EMPTY, all white sand beaches and dunes. If you were to trek south across those dunes you would be on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. We could hear the wind screaming along, but on the lee side of the dune it was calm and still and BEAUTIFUL. I love seeing places like this. An amazing little piece of Mother Nature, two minutes from urban hustle, proving once again that you do not need to drive all day to get away from it ...

Day 157 Panama City Beach - Dauphin Island-Alabama

... of fun, the boat moved on and then a breeze came up, the awning was down, and it began an inconsistent rattle. GEE time to fix that at around 11:30 pm. Settle in again and sleep was next, UNTIL 1:30am in the morning, and someone had arrived to park next to us, with a torch being waved and instructions and directions being shouted to the driver from about 5 foot from our Castle, made for a fun night's sleep. Oh well just another day on our journey.

Gulf Shores

... of the first times I had ever swam in the Gulf of Mexico. In the Gulf the water is much warmer and there are hardly no waves at all. This means that there are a creepy amount of fish all over the place. They surround your legs as you stand in the water and you can feel them brushing up against you and occasionally even nibbling you.

HAPPY (EARLY) ANNIVERSARY At ORANGE BEACH, ALABAMA

... wonderful. It did rain but mostly all around us. When it did rain we were at the Wharf and on our way to Johnny Rockets. It was fun and the food was really good. We usually don't play the juke box but did this time. I was surprised by the song my daughter-in-law played. I did not know she likes the Temptations! We ate at our favorite places again and again the food was delicious. One place we ...

... from the lakeshore, where he kept his boat in the water and fished whenever he wanted to. There was an abundance of good restaurants on the beach road nearby, as well as a big WalMart. For those of you that don't know, WalMart is rather important to the RV life. Most of them allow overnight parking, as well as, most of the stores now are SuperCenters that have groceries, pharmacies, beauty salons, and just about anything else, so it's an easy one-stop place. etc.
