... had done it!! We then had to get to the train station to go to Matsuyama where we were staying for the night. We finally arrived at the hostel at 9:00pm. Sadly we had missed the hours they had their onsen open but we had amazing showers. The hostel was really nice and the guy very helpful. Our room was tatami mats, very clean and comfy. We were sad we wouldn't have any time in Matsuyama as we were just passing through. It is famous for it's big onsen and the castle. Another ...

... had to sit down and told me to go explore for a bit. We had the whole day to explore this island and the bike ride coming up....what would happen? I went off to feed some rabbits and check out the food situation. We hobbled to the cafe, got some lunch and assess the situation. Dave said he wouldn't let the foot stop us so we rested a bit and set off slowly. Around the island were various abandoned buildings for poison gas production and storage. This ...

They proceed to explain that they are from central Japan and are in town for some kind of engineering project (I think). ...

Day 12 - travel to Onomichi - Hiroshima area

... and a short walk later we had arrived at our hotel in Onomichi. Unfortunately at this point my feet are very sore and I am in no mood to go biking between any islands. As it turns out the weather is kind of rainy and gray and it doesn't take much to talk Erika into a rest day. We dine on Ramen a block from our hotel and call it a night pretty early. Nothing to see here, at least that we bothered to take photos of on this day.

    Day 21: 3 weeks in! Tomonoura, Sensui-jima

... is a speciality of the area. It reminded James of Benedictine. So, back to Island to brave the baths - luckily we could check in early too, so we went to our room to gather ourselves. The baths were bonkers. To cut a long story short they involved alternately crawling into human clay ovens, running into the freezing sea and soaking in some rather unclean-looking leaf-filled baths. The area itself looked like an unfinished worksite and there was a line ...
