... All of the breweries have spring water wells too and you can help yourself to this lovely water. We were all stocked up so we got back on the train to Onomichi. We found our hostel which was a really cute traditional Japanese style building. We had a dorm room with bunks to ourselves which had a table and cushions in too. We bought some snacks and enjoyed some of our yummy sake. Day 116 Today we went to RABBIT ISLAND!! Known as Okunoshima in Japanese, it was ...

... is a speciality of the area. It reminded James of Benedictine. So, back to Island to brave the baths - luckily we could check in early too, so we went to our room to gather ourselves. The baths were bonkers. To cut a long story short they involved alternately crawling into human clay ovens, running into the freezing sea and soaking in some rather unclean-looking leaf-filled baths. The area itself looked like an unfinished worksite and there was a line ...

... to places being written in the Roman alphabet as well as kanji but in Onomichi we only had the kanji to go on, and although a bit startling at first we had fun trying to work out whether the symbols matched up to what we had in our guidebook! A bit like a scratchcard... - cycling around the BEAUTIFUL peaceful island, on electric bikes (no effort required!) - in hindsight, the Buddha cave was quite cool - but not so enjoyable at the ...
