The samurai armour is a work of art, with beautifully woven, colourful designs, topped off with elaborate and detailed helmets. Happily, we were allowed to photograph them, which is often not permitted. And lot of narrow stairs, but well worth the effort.

Other stories place the height of older versions of the main hall of Izumo Taisha at 96 meters (about 315 feet)! This latter story matches the myth that the shrine was said to have stretched all the way to the heavens. There was a very nice one-tenth scale model displaying what it might have looked like.

As a student, she learned much that was of little interest at the time, but now, when faced with those things, that long-ago-acquired knowledge kicks in and interest grows boundlessly. Unfortunately, she was never compelled to learn much of ancient Asian history or culture. However, to be fair, there isn't enough time to study everything.
