... do it more than once. We decided to focus on one area as they are just too many things to do and see in Hakone.

We took the train to Hakone Yumoto station about an hour and half away. After a short walk along the river to let Will get the wiggles out, we hopped a bus to Moto Hakone on Lake Ashi. The bus twisted and turned as it climbed from 250 ft to 2300 ft.elevation. The scenery was stunning and vibrant with the fall foliage. I'm beginning to believe that ...

This morning we head off to Hakone, about 80 min train ride away from Tokyo, to stay in a traditional Japanese inn (ryokan). Hakone is located in Japan's Fuji National Park known for hot spring resorts and Mt Fuji views. At least we are told there are good views of Mt Fuji, not that it ever made an appearance for us. ... trip is up. Once breakfast was done we packed up what was left in our room and headed to the subway. We needed to catch a train a bit further away so it was a bit more of a walk through Ginza going against the flow of businessmen in suits heading to work. We managed to get on the right train and headed to Shinagawa station which is one of two bullet train stations in Tokyo. The bullet train ride was only about 25 minutes before we got to the nearest station to Hakone ...

... found from a group who had a hiking day planned. We took the bus all the way up to station 5 (the highest you could get transportation to). This is usually where people start their climb to the top. However, with it being out of season, we opted for a hike around the upper part of the mountain and were rewarded with amazing views of both Mt. Fuji and some of the 5 lakes during the autumn. I took way to many pictures but just found ...

... guests seem to be here to enjoy the onsen facilities, you only have to site in the foyer - 90% are roaming around in yukatas (cottons dressing gown). The surrounding gardens are beautiful with 2 waterfalls and a small shrine. Cam and Omi had a soak in the hot tub and Celie is amused because when you open the toilet door the toilet lid automatically puts itself up and makes a sound like 'hi'. We area about to go to dinner, not sure what to expect but we're very excited. Until ...
