... below, but where we were was clear and we had great views of the crater. We could even see a few distant mountains sticking up from the lower layer of clouds to the north. Quite the sensation, being so high with no other mountains around us! On the roof of Japan we took some photos and ate our celebratory chocolate before starting down. It was a fairly quiet day today, but in the peak season in August the trails can get very busy up here; ...

    Piece of cake!!!

I climbed with 2 American's, Jeff and Nath. Jeff was fully equipped (which turned out to be very helpful), whilst Nath and I looked more like pathetic backpackers. Our outfit was crunched together with everything our backpacks had to offer for such an adventure.

With a dismal weather forecast, we set off the next morning for what we anticipated to be a very wet, cold and windy climb up Mount Fuji. We were prepared to see nothing from the top as the cloud was low and thick. 8 km walk from walk Magemo to Tsumago.

The guide book and the tourist information centre told me that it would take 3hours to walk it.
However I only had 2, as I got up way to late to actually do this walk. What can I say i did it in 1 1/2 hours :)

Rock'n Roll!!!! found the coolest little coffee shop in Tsumago.

Wasted no time going from the base of Fuji to our first onsen (hot spring baths). The minerals in the water are supposed to do good things for the skin. It felt amazing to rest our muscles and get clean after the trek. Checked into Hakone Suimeiso ryokan, a traditional Japanese guesthouse. This is where you are served a kaiseki meal in your room ...
