390 Galle Road Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka
Unawatuna, Sri Lanka emeric.bensaci... that week and saw the exact same result! Bummer. Some of the guys pulling in the net were super old! One guy was 92 with not an ounce of fat on him! He had one tooth that stuck out of his mouth like a cartoon baby! Gaul is Sri Lanka's 3rd biggest city and it was only 18 kilometers away. I met an English guy who was also keen to check it out and we split a tuk-tuk. The city has a massive old Dutch Fort that overlooks a ...
Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka hildreth75... Boy is clever and bright, has better english than either his father or mother, plays flute, violin, and piano, and goes off to school every day. He says he doesn't like school much, but still he likes to learn. At the age of 7, he does not practice on a surfboard or in the waves as most of the other youngsters do, he learns. Exposure to any number of cultures through the family business also stimulates his curious nature. He asks questions, watches, and listens until Ama calls to ...
Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka bloomer... in the center of. So, with one of the other fellows staying in the guesthouse we set off the mile or so to the town center in the heat of the day. I had a passing thought as I was locking up my room that perhaps I should wear a hat, but decided against it, hence the delay in hitting the surf as I waited for the red to peel and fade from my forehead (now at least a five-head due to the loss of hair) so that I will be able to face the sun again. Nothing to do ...
Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka bloomer... cash from fewer guests - it's all down to some gentle haggling. We stopped next door to Sunil's at the Harmony Guest House and negotiated a reduction from Rs1000 to Rs800. It has good twin rooms with mossie nets and cold water showers (well, sort of lukewarm), the room security is not brilliant but there is a lockable drawer. Breakfast, along with 10% Service Charge is the universal Sri Lanka rip-off; with ...
Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka worldlywandererWhere did January go?? Time is just flying by! In the past few weeks I managed to complete my Open Water Diver certification! I've done the four dives required for the certification. The last one, sea turtles were surfacing a few meters from the boat. The other divers saw them up close under water. I wasn't so fortunate, but to see them from the boat was really cool. From the ...
Matara, Sri Lanka mioww... and so I found out he wasnt a police man and just one of their friends who spoke better english than them. I told him i would only talk to the officers and after a half hour with Polina asking for their names and bage numbers (which they never gave) they took my name (which i gave a fake one - Snale) and let us leave. However, one of the guys said they would get us tomorrow! This wasnt the end of it though............ We eventually got into Hambantota and there ...
Hikkadua, Sri Lanka stuboFeel greatly refreshed and energized from my marathon slumber yesterday, so after a hearty breakfast head to the beach by myself. Prom was a feeling a little bit under the weather so she decided to lie in. At the beach i attempt to learn how to swim on my own, the water is too tempting not to - think I'm getting the hang of it! Nah not really.. Anyway, I watch all the swimmers/surfers having an absolute blast. Damn, I need to pick up swimming ASAP. Then Prom joins in and we ...
Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka sabtravelsRanjit drove us down the coast to Ambalangoda which is a centre of traditional mask and puppet making. We had a look round and couldn't resist buying a good luck mask. As we drove further south Ranjit pointed out the chilling reminders of the Tsunami. Twisted railway tracks, smashed boats and ruined buildings showed the force of the disaster even on this, the west coast of the island. There also many positive signs in the form of building sites and development projects funded by the ...
