Wickenburg AZ

Left Needles after trying to visit the Post Office. How silly of me to think they'd be open by 8:30 AM. Anyway on a whim I decided to go the 20 miles off path to Lake Havasu and see London Bridge (er, that's one of London's many bridges they spent millions on to relocate in the middle of nowhere). Not the classic tower bridge, but still why not? I esp. like the mental image I now carry of desert, bridge and paddle boat. Then onward to Kingman for Mr D'z Rte 66 Diner, where I indulged while li...

Backroading with Scott

Once again Scott got Don mobile early in the morning and we headed out to explore the road past the park entrance. The other end of the road rejoins the highway ten miles east of Wickenburg in the small development that the GPS had erroneously identified as 'the park' on Thursday. Both ends of the road are paved but very soon after leaving the park the pavement ended and we were on dirt road. The scenery was ...

Hiking the Pipeline Trail

Scott doesn't like to sit around, so right after breakfast we were off to a hiking trail in the northern part of the park. It proved to be smart to get an early start as our return trip along the trail proved to be a hot one! We drove to the beginning of the trail and, as the first part was all down hill, I thought "This is going to be easy". Before we reached ...

Exploring the Park

... best last week but there are still many to enjoy. The humidity is about 10-15% so they don't last long once they bloom. Scott joined us in time for dinner tonight so that we would have two full days for activities. Friday night at the movies completed the day as everyone was tired.

Don commented that these agricultural crops were some of the best we have seen and cover a vast acreage. Part of this area has been used for intensive market gardening, yielding a wide variety of crops. The kicker - it appears that the better the ...

Kingman to Wickenburg - Day 2

... would be more intense than a branding. After the ride this evening, we could hear the results of the removal attempt from 5 rooms down the hall. I need to cut the blog short tonight because it is already 11:00 PM and I need my beauty sleep. Wish us luck tomorrow because the ride will be close to 120 miles, although with significantly less climbing.

Roadblocks

... I had to go because one of our papers was due. While en route, my truck began to feel a bit sluggish. I started gunning the gas trying to keep it going but it just up and died when I got into the left hand turn lane. Of course there were cars behind me who didn't have much sympathy for the fact that my truck refused to move. After pushing the truck out of the intersection (with the help of a ...

Maybe the best bit yet

... it would break a little, and I got a glimpse of the floor or other side of the canyon - it didn't seem real - like I knew what it should look like and this was just my imagination. It was like a strip tease. About an hour later, and over the course of about 5 minutes, the cloud just sudddenly disappeared and the whole enormous canyon yawned out in front of me. Indescribably cool! I knew I was going to like it, but I really fell in love - I spent the rest of ...
