          ... to buy a house. Up to that time, Mary and he were living in an apartment. He lived in the house until he moved to the Whitehouse. There were no more tours for the day, so we went into the backyard to meet President-Elect Lincoln (it is not really him!). The setting was that Lincoln was just about ready to move to Washington. The actor portraying him was very knowledgeable. He answered people’s questions and told stories.

          ... did the tour this morn so didn't leave St Louis until 11.30. A lot of ground to cover with over 300 miles in front of us. Arrived in Springfield 18.30. Made good timing.
