... year. When all this was eventually sorted, we were issued our boarding passes all the way through to Melbourne with only the obstacle of a security clearance between us and the departure lounge. Another wait eschewed as we twisted and turned through the maxed created by those spring loaded pull out barriers they used to channel people (like sheep into a sheering shed) through an ID check and into a full body scanner, followed by a pat down before hand luggage, jackets and shoes ...

I ask if the slightly better ones next to window are free since nobody was sitting in them only to be told they are for the crew. Screw the crew.
Spying a single unoccupied seat further up the plane I make towards it. Hostie asks if there is a problem and I ask her if she had any worse seats than the ones we are supposed to ...

... We obliged! Some wore the funniest costumes, pink or acid green tutus anyone (and these were guys!) I even saw one dressed as Super Mario! There were about 45000 entrants in the race, and even now, I don't know the name of the person who won, but I know that was not the thing most people left with. There was a sense of patriotism in the best sense, especially when we saw runners honouring the Boston Marathon, runners or victims. Yes, I won't lie and say the thought of ...
