... Our boat captain, Chris, was a walking, talking encyclopedia of knowledge about everything in the area. Of course, he has been driving the riverboat for 31 years! Great place for waterfalls and trails
... and other tourist shops. Looks like mostly a place to rent summer homes. We found a fish shack to eat dinner. It opened at noon and we were a few min. early – however there was already a line waiting to get in – a good sign. Very basic inside but everybody comes here for the Lake Superior fish and chips. It was nice and fresh as the catch had come in that morning and reasonably priced. Just the kind of the place I like – local joint that is far away ...
Day 19
From Traverse City to Curtis in the upper peninsula (UP)of Michigan. Nice scenic water drive. It's just what we needed. Traveled the Mackinac bridge on a beautiful day. They charged us $8 to get off the bridge and continue on the the UP. We chose a private campground. It was cheaper than the state parks (it is usually cheaper the other way around). Well, it was pretty
... really cool. The campground at the park was nice and I got a site right across from the bathroom which is a plus in my opinion. We went to eat at the brewery which IS located in the upper falls site. The fries were delicious. The prices are pretty average for a sit down spot. We tried a pastie which apparently is a big thing in the UP. Its basically just an empanada without the latin flavor :p
