So, we are overnighting in a little place called Willits, in northern California. What a ride we had today!

Left Monterey in the warm sun and drove along Hwy 101 next to the sand dunes and the beach, then passed miles and miles of low-growing crops: artichokes, strawberries, cabbage, squash, pumpkin heading into clouds with dark …

... CA-1S just followed the coastline. Sometimes way up in the air, other times down at sea level, but lots of times with a steep cliff drop to the ocean below. We stopped at all the Scenic Vista stops, and at one of them, the cliff had given way and taken some of the railing with it down to the beach below. The scenery was breathtaking when the fog was clear enough to see. But it was a little chilly at 63 degrees.

... I was getting warm. The road was a little bumpy but very scenic and twisty as we wound our way along side the rogue river. I lost count how many times we crossed over, then the road just ran out. We turned around and tried a couple of turnings but they went nowhere as well. ... we saw the Pacific Ocean!! We walked the historic downtown area and had lunch in a historic cafe. We had heard that they had a unique beach that had a large amount of Sea Glass { small pieces of glass bottles that have been polished by the sand and washed ashore} We collected a handful and watched the waves break on the rocks. What a great day!

... Bragg using the wifi at McDonalds. The road to get here was quite windy and up and down hills. Nick was glad not to be doing it in the coach. He may have permanent "white knuckles" from some of the drives he has done along the way. The drive was 30 miles but took about an hour to drive it.

Tomorrow we are off to Novato just North of San Rafael where I will visit with my cousin Betsy and her family.
