      Monterey to Willits

So, we are overnighting in a little place called Willits, in northern California. What a ride we had today!

Left Monterey in the warm sun and drove along Hwy 101 next to the sand dunes and the beach, then passed miles and miles of low-growing crops: artichokes, strawberries, cabbage, squash, pumpkin heading into clouds with dark …

Leaving the slum, then to Caspar (camping)

I've never been so happy to leave a hotel. This place was a DUMP.

We stopped by Point Reyes national park for some (more) good views, but mostly just enjoyed the scenery along route 1.

The dogs are doing well, as is the camper. We're happy Caspar is getting the help he needs, but sad to see him go.

We found a neat campsite with a beautiful ocean view (Caspar beach rv park), and settled for the night. Campfire w/ BBQ and beer. Life is good.

It seemed that light very rarely reaches the forest floor but it does, filtering in between the canopies of the trees hundreds of feet in the air. Even as they fall and lie on the forest floor, these trees provide their own ecosystems of new growth. It was a magical, mystical experience.

We took a ride to Fort Bragg on the coast to go to Glass
Beach, well known for sea glass. Many years ago it used to be the town dump,
long since cleaned up but the ocean is still turning sea glass. Had fun picking and even got Bruce to pick
also. It was a beautiful spot and on the
way back to the car we saw a doe with two fawns. We ...

... her wonderful mix of feistiness, elegance and exquisite vocals for 55 years. She has marched alongside Martin Luther King Jr., sang happy birthday to Nelson Mandella, tirelessly organised resistance to war from Vietnam on, and publically praised The Dixie Chicks for speaking out against President Bush and the whole Iraq thing.

This was our first ever Joan Baez covert and she was in fine company and voice. From Diamonds and Rust, to her ...
