... s Mound" --- we were curious and weren't quite sure what it was. Well, it's a ski area. Since the Midwest doesn't have mountains, they have man-made hills which they use for skiing during the winter and call them mounds. Bruce's Mound was 'closed for the season' of course.

... of place that really makes it all worthwhile. I really mean it. We got off to a late start this morning and headed to Alma Center/Hixton which is southwest from where we were. We have some extra time before we need to get to South Dakota, so we made a reservation at the Hixton Alma Center Kampground for the next 3 days. The ride down here was just beautiful. Pleasant Wisconsin roads. Stopped in town of Owen, had picnic as lots of bread, summer sausage and cheese in cooler.
Anna then drove -- didn't stop again until reached border -- where Mississippi and St Croix rivers join, so crossed Mississippi twice except the first was actually St Croix River. [At Prescott, Wisconsin and Hastings, Minnesota]
Very hot -- above 90 and humid. Had 2nd stop just across St Croix, possibly Lake Rebecca Park.
